No, not yet. But it does if it was polished. I have not seen the end of shoe polish on 3 bags and I just pushed those on the side to work on the good ones.
If I had that many, I would just work on the fun ones until they were gone before I tackled anything difficult. I also like to rehab styles I've never had before.

Scrub with this and machine wash with a towel in the load. Use Oxyclean and a soak cycle if you have it. Shape and air dry.
Thank you! I washed it just as you suggested, and it came out amazingly clean!
Unfortunately, now I can see that the previous owner had a cut/slice in the fabric that they pulled together and glued. Didn't notice before because I was distracted by the dirt lol.

I need help! I am running a purse auction for my Frenchie rescue. Today I received a black patent leather Kristen. The donor attempted to clean the interior prior to shipping. It was shipped without being fully dried. Mildew and mold is my problem coming from every seam interior and exterior. I dunked the bag and scrubbed the interior lining. It has come clean, but I am concerned about the smell. This online auction starts next Friday. Is there any way to get that smell out over the next few days. The purse is in good condition and only missing the long strap. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :confused1:

At the very least, use Fray Check on it. This will keep it from unraveling. You can find it at any craft/fabric store. Probably Walmart even.
If it's still sticking up and needs to be glued, use a washable fabric glue that dries clear and flexible. Good Luck!

The sun definitely helps with mildew (expose the inner lining especially to the sun). Also you could spray the lining with vinegar which neutralizes odors. Honestly I wouldn't be able to be sure it doesn't have permanent damage though, as mold often comes back and the smell is very hard to get rid of in leather.

I'm highly allergic to mold. Is this mold issue going to disclosed? I'm not sure if you can get all the mold spores out. It's probably not worth trying to save it.

I will be going through and disclosing any and all damages/issues with each item. I have cleaned it. I am not certain if it was just mildew or also mold, but I have a huge concern it was indeed mold. The exterior patent leather had some white residue along the exterior seams. The interior appeared to be mildew to me, but I will take it into my local leather guy tomorrow to see what he says. If it was mold, I am certain he will be able to tell and we will not be able to use it. It will go into the trash.

So sad. :(

I'm going to take it in tomorrow and have my local leather guy look at it. If he can't tell immediately, he will likely open up a small area to check out the interior. But if it was indeed mold and not just mildew, it has to go in the trash.

EBK v convertible clutch, continued (but not for long).
I followed Katev's advice, did another wash with Dawn, soaked, rinsed. Still produced dark grey water.
Had forgotten to check whether the strap (which had been my reason for buying the bag in the first place) had also been covered in shoe polish. Of course, it had! So, another acetone treatment, bath, soak for the strap. Water turned dark grey.
Put bag and strap into a large nylon perforated wash bag and put it into the washer, with extra water and extra rinse option( front loader machine). Used warm water and Tide detergent.
Stuffed and left to dry overnight.
This morning, I thought I would try rubbing with acetone again, just to confirm the bag and strap were finally shoe- polish- free. NOT SO. Still charcoal grey paper towel and old facecloth.

Having used more than half a quart of acetone, more than half a jumbo sized roll of thick paper towel, a wash cloth and too much soap and water to mention, as well as a couple of Tylenol tablets to get rid of the acetone headache on day one, what do you think I should do. Keep going or give up and try to make tassels?
I wish there were a way to vote on this thread. If you agree that I should give up, would you mind "liking" this post, please.
