I've never heard about using nylon hose to massage in conditioner. If the leather is dry, I don't think Apple will do the trick, and I don't think Blackrocks is enough. You'll need a moisturizing conditioner like Leather CPR first. 2 or 3 coats followed by Blackrocks. I usually apply conditioner with my hands. Later I buff with a cloth and then a brush. For the Blackrocks, I wipe off the excess immediately with a paper towel but for the CPR I like to let it soak in for awhile.

I've already answered your questions about brass.
yeah, thanks, you suggested I post here too ( the only reason I asked a separate brass question is because I thought it would get lost at the end and all the people trying things and experimenting with it wouldn't be around here at this point in the thread), thank you though.

Not sure where I read the hose part, but did somewhere :) won't be doing that unless it created a miraculous result.

Hello ladies, I would love some expert opinions on this dilemma. I finally tracked down my hard to find black Gramercy bag and much of the piping has come off the handle. Is piping something that can be replace by a shoe shop? There is more 'off' than 'on', if you know what I mean. Of course this wasn't disclosed in the listing at all (Tradesy).
I'm on the fence because I'd love to keep this bag and am thinking if I do in fact keep it to just remove what's left of the piping on the handle to make it coherent and use my edgekote to "paint" the edges. Structurally I think they'll be fine. I'd love to hear if any of you have used a product to fix your piping and if so what you used. Thanks so much!View attachment 3699849View attachment 3699852

I am struggling with piping repair right now, the leather is gone from the bottom corners of my husband's old briefcase. It is a pain in the neck to repair and it will never look "almost as good as new".

Handles get a lot of wear, so unless you decide to pay for a professional repair, I think you should return the bag and wait for the next black Gramercy to show up. If you decide to keep it then the vendor should give you a partial refund IMO. Good luck!

Hiya! I don't know if you have used the search feature yet. It is the Bomb  if you ask me. Some people watch TV shows (oh God, even that phrase shows my age lol) but since I joined this forum, I end up logging on at night and searching all kinds of Coach bag information. For example one night I did a pen and ink stain search. Another I did a search on using acrylic paint. And then I get side tracked by interesting info and start a search for something different lol. Oh and I like to see what kind of experience people have had with different sellers too!!

What about putting the bag in freezer/refrigerator to solidify the chocolate mass and then just pick it off? Have never try on leather but it at least worked on table clothes...

:sick:Yuck! Here's what I'd try:

1. Put some ice in a plastic bag and set it on the spot until the chocolate hardens. Use a butter knife to scrape off the solidified bits.

2. Dunk bag in cool water. Work a little dish soap into the stain and scrub with a toothbrush. Rinse well and dry as usual.

3. After drying, if any stain remains, apply cornstarch. Allow to set for 30 minutes or so to absorb greasy residue. Brush off.

Good luck!

You've gotten some good ideas already. I just wanted to mention that I bought a bag that looked like it had dried vomit in the bottom. So chocolate doesn't sound bad to me!

I think chocolate will melt off in the bath but you might have to worry about the stain spreading. It would be a "piece of cake" compared to the gum I inadvertently dunked!

Oh my! I almost feel lucky that it's only chocolate now! Thanks for the suggestions.. freezing it sounds like a great idea.

Thanks!!just did my first soak and random pen marks started appearing on the outside of the bag. Looked inside and it looked dirty, but not inked up. So, I am off to research getting rid of ink. It also needs a 2nd bath as the first one came out so dark brown.
On my third bath with this one. It was dirtier than I thought! Water is so brown when I take the bag out. Will the water eventually be clear or do I just eyeball it to see if it is clean? Thanks!

The water may never be clear. Dye continues to be released with some bags. I rarely dunk more than once. I only redunk if I have used acetone or something else that is damaging to the leather.

...I've fixed corners that were this bad with puff paint. If you really want to do it right, you could get some very thin leather and glue it on.

I've glued down the plastic piping with leather glue, let it dry, and then covered the corners with puff fabric paint, it's drying now.

Do you apply steam to harden the puff paint - how do you do that? I was thinking of a tea kettle!

I've never used steam. I don't think it is necessary. My iron has a spray steam function so I could use that.

Hello,
I'm working on rehabbing a Lenox bag right now and its biggest problem was that the bag had been pancaked at some point (see picture below). I'm drying it packed tight with towels so it looks nice and fully right now but I can still see the faint crease on the sides where it folded on itself. I'm expecting weakness along that line.

I don't carry much in my bags generally so the bag will definitely not be stuffed. What can I do to keep the bag from flattening out while being used? I stuff my bags with paper during storage to maintain shape so the greatest risk is during usage. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Sometimes I'll cut strips of cardboard and fit them in the sides and/or bottom to make the bag maintain its shape.

Hello all, I just purchased the Brooklyn 28 from Dillard's in chalk. It feels a little dry and I want to condition it but I also want to spray it with Apple Garde. Which would you recommend I do first, the spraying or the conditioning? TIA
