Vintage Bag Question: Would the dry leather on this bag worry anyone? Does it look like it just needs a good conditioning or is the "cracking" too severe?

Please give it a look:

I had the same duffle sac in tan. I named her Crispy after spending a few weeks on trying to rejuvenate her and just before she went into a big, black trash bag and left on the curb. I'll never get all the products back I wasted by not knowing any better.
I have a black duffle sac I think I spent a hundred dollars on in perfect condition, and is one of my favorites.

That's good to know, I'll think twice before purchasing, even though I love it!

Be patient! There are plenty of these out there, you will find one in much nicer condition. I have a black one I have had to wash 3 times already because I keep spilling chicken soup in it on the way to work. It is a real workhorse! I paid about $50-$60 a couple of summers ago for it. Also my tea thermos leaked boiling hot tea into it the other day so I guess I gotta wash it again!

Purse number 2... this one was found in even worse shape than number 1! $20 at a thrift shop forlorne in the rejects pile. Deep scuffs and gashes to the leather, aweful fading. Same basic routine as purse 1. Except more dye and tons more conditioner. The gashes and scuffs actually filled in and arent there anymore. I do need to add a bit more dye to edges and rebuff the suede interior a 2nd time though.
Basically perfect condition, heavy, solid.

No idea model or year...

Im keeping it...has decades of life left!
These prohects were very enjoyable...im keeping a look out for other old Coach bags in need of TLC.

Awesome job! They are beautiful! I am new to rehabbing too and it gets addicting!

Found this Janice at Goodwill (thanks @whateve for authenticating!). It's very dirty, but looking forward to cleaning it up. Does anyone know what year this is from and also, is this color British Tan?

The first three letters of the serial number, B9D, tell the month, year and plant where this bag was made. B is February, 9 is 1999, and D is the D plant code.

It looks like British Tan to me.

Enjoy your rehab project! It should clean up nicely.

Thanks!!just did my first soak and random pen marks started appearing on the outside of the bag. Looked inside and it looked dirty, but not inked up. So, I am off to research getting rid of ink. It also needs a 2nd bath as the first one came out so dark brown.

It might not be totally dry yet. British Tan is dark brown after a bath, until it dries completely.

I'm looking for some advice on repairing piping...Two of the corners aren't bad. The leather is very thin and the piping is beginning to show through, but I can stabilize them with fabric glue and touch them up with acrylic paint. But 2 of the corners are very, very bad. The leather is completely gone and the plastic piping material is sticking out of the bag, see the pics below...

I've washed and dried the briefcase and am getting ready to try to glue the exposed piping in place. I have an old tube of fabric (leather) glue but I want to get a new one; does anyone recommend a specific brand of leather glue over the others? Thanks!
