Hello ladies, it's been a long time since I stopped by. I admit to have been not so eager to rehab lately after a couple mishaps with mold, that appeared after giving a quick soak to great looking bags just out of shape, and after that I couldn't save them.

This time I come looking for advice, because I do not know what else to do.
I used a swingpack last summer, the Legacy Zebra 49222, that has a webbing strap with a dark purple/navy bluish shoulder piece, and also the ends that hold the strap to the hardware. At the end of the season I got caught in a storm and totally got drench, including the bag. I was careful to keep moving the leather shoulder piece, so in case that bled wouldn't stained the strap in one spot, but I guess it was not totally dry when I stored it and now that I got it out again to use it, there is a spot very noticeable were I left it, (that is not the spot where I wear it), and there are also some less noticeable marks all over.
First I tried to clean it with Coach Fabric cleaner just the big spot, nothing changed.
I tried Soilove, stain removers, Purex for colors, nothing changed.
I decided not to keep trying on the spot because I am making it even more noticeable from the rubbing and scrubbing.
So I put it in hot water making sure the leather pieces didn't get wet, and soaked it for a couple hours with the Purex and Soilove, but still no changes. I am so frustrated.

What would you advice me to do next, try any other product or technique? I thought regular bleach but I am not sure. I really do not want to keep scrubbing, the bag looks new and the strap old and grungy... Thank you!

I can understand why you would be concerned about washing a white strap with blue leather ends because I have occasionally experienced a little color bleeding when washing some bags in the past, but I would rather risk having a clean, slightly blue-tinged strap than a spotted dirty white strap.

If it were my bag, and I had already tried every delicate approach I could think of, I would put the strap inside a lingerie laundry bag (or tie it up in a pillow case) and cycle it through the washer with Woolite. And I would pre-treat the worst areas with Shout or Oxi-Clean gel before washing it. After it comes out of the washer, stretch it out to dry on a towel to dry. If it is a little wrinkled after it dries then use a press cloth and steam iron to smooth it out.

If it didn't come completely clean the first time then I would wash it again.

I recently posted the link to an old rehab I did on a white canvas bag with tan leather trim. It was so dirty and stained that I tried giving it a bath in the sink, using bleach, and finally resorted to cycling it through the washer twice, and it eventually came out just fine with no color bleeding. See the link below to see how that canvas and leather item held up to rough treatment. No guarantees but it might just work for you, too.

If you do get a little blue tinge around the leather ends of the strap, you could probably touch it up with acrylic paint. Good luck!

P.S. When I am rehabbing a musty bag with a high risk of mold, I have found that quickly using a little chlorine bleach and rinsing, and then applying Leather Therapy Oil a few times (inside and out) during the drying process may prevent any mold problems.

Thanks for your advice. I guess I need some Oxi-Clean, Shout didn't do anything and try the wash machine.

Someone buy this please. The seller is tempting me saying offers welcome. I know it's at Posh but it's a Bonnie Cashin!

I don't believe that it is Bonnie Cashin, it may be modeled after an original Cashin but I'm not sure about that.

It might be the same as the Legacy Convertible Satchel I once rehabbed, see the link below.

Thanks I think it's the original. There's one like it on eBay in much worse condition for $150 asking price.
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/201907973488

P.s. No offense but the brown satchel you rehabbed doesn't appear to be authentic.

I had all 5 bags in that thread authenticated by Hyacinth and DemRam before I took the trouble of rehabbing them. it was Hyacinth that told me the name of the bag. But you are correct, now that I look at it again, it is a different style from the bag you posted.

I don't think that they used creed patches during Cashin's time at Coach, just simple labels that said "Coach" or "Cashin Carry for Coach" and they didn't use hangtags during Cashin's Coach era.. You should post it in the authentication or ID thread before proceeding under the assumption that it is a genuine Cashin bag, just a suggestion.

I noticed the eBay seller doesn't call it Bonnie Cashin but it definitely is a NYC bag that's HTF. The 9063 sure does have the same buckle look handles!

It's the one with the No.BIN that I think is not authentic. I could be wrong. I am still learning. :)

I hate to sound like a Debbie Downer, but I've learned the hard way to avoid light color bags that weren't in excellent shape (as much as I loved them or they were a bargain!) because I was rarely satisfied with the results of all my hard work. So I would probably walk away from the bag you are looking at - even though it may be HTF. Below is a post showing the results of my rehab attempts on various light-colored bags, but you might have more talent and better luck than me!

I went back and reviewed Hyacinth's original feedback on that serial number and she said that is was "Wonky, but probably authentic" so you were right to question it, even Hyacinth wasn't certain. We are all still learning! :smartass:
