...Katev, you mentioned in your other thread, rub and buff for fixing jewely. Did it last as a fix? Did it stay on? Would it be any good for rubbing onto hardware (such as feet) that has lost its brass coating and has turned silver?
After a 20 minute warm water wash in Lexol with a toothbrush scrub, 20 minute rinse, about 3 applications of Leather Therapy Restorer & Conditioner while drying and an application of Blackrock and brushing and buffing. My girl!View attachment 3684140View attachment 3684141View attachment 3684142
I would love to fix the piping but I agree it doesn't look that bad. The piping is like that in a few spots but for a 30 year old bag I'm OK with that. I will try the craft paint and see how that goes. Actually I bought the bag off of Ebay and the tone looks intentional? That's one reason I bought it and the color is unusual. I found it strange that I'm the only one who bid on it considering it is a NYC bag.
I got it for 35.00 plus 6 for shipping. IMO its a good deal because I'm seeing NYC bags for $100+ on Ebay and the leather on this is pretty substantial.Congrats on your NYC bag. I have a Patricia Legacy in what might be the same color. A cool, taupe color. It is in the authenticate thread. I though I was buying a brown bag lol. I looked at hangtag swatches from old posts and possibly it is *Mocha*. Anywho, it is an interesting color, but I am more drawn toward warm neutral shades. I hope you got a deal on it. I won an auction on a brown Berkley saddle for .99. It ended on a Sunday morning. I guess everyone was at church (but me lol). You never know!
Well, you can count on me to enable you. I will say, "Why not buy another Coach bag?".
I don't need anymore bags either and my boyfriend is like "another bag"? I have a NYC bag so I'm content for now.![]()
@katev Thanks, I enjoy looking at other people's before / after and project pics so I figure I ought to contribute to the party! And admittedly, this bag was in what I consider very good shape. I guess we all have some requirements or ideas of what kind of bag we want to work with. This bag fit mine. The quality of the leather never ceases to amaze me as well as how it responds to conditioning. I am so hooked on these bags! And especially the shoulder sac. As appealing as the duffle bags are, I would just stuff the daylights out of it, never find anything easily (Black Hole Syndrome) and probably develop a pinched nerve in my neck. The shoulder sac is a controlled Black Hole. It works for me![]()
...the bag is more of a gray color than black or brown...
Omg no. Have you seen my avatar plus my recent Dakota and Sheridan family photos? I have those plus at least 20 precreed bags, and maybe 30 more that I am working on rehabbing to get rid of! The only bag I will buy next is a Rogue 25 (that's if I can stop buying the next $20 or less vintage bag). [emoji26]Well, you can count on me to enable you. Fabulous find and great job rehabbing! Another rehab question. After washing and applying 3 coats of Leather CPR and 2 coats of Blackrocks it seems that my red Pocket Purse has areas of "black" running through the grain of the bag if that makes sense.

I was curious if that is something normal with red colored leather or should I start over with another bath. It doesn't look bad just annoying.
Yeah just give it some time and the dark spots will likely fade.I once rehabbed a red city bag and it got dark and streaky and spotty after conditioning and I was very disappointed, but over time (weeks!) the conditioner absorbed into the leather and the colored evened out very nicely.
So far I have used Rub and Buff for charms on a bracelet and a fob that had lost gold plating (see link below) and it has held up very well, but they don't get a lot of wear - so I don't know how long it would last on bag feet but it is worth a try. It's pretty cheap and easy to use.
