I would try vinegar and a magic eraser first. After that, if it is still there, you could try conditioner to see if it will blend it. The conditioner I use most often is Leather CPR followed by Blackrock Leather n Rich. It's a good idea to buy these conditioners for maintenance of your vintage Coach items anyway. If none of that works, then a bath is in order. You can read through this thread to see how to give your bag a bath.
Just to update re the spot on my vintage Willis, the stain is gone - yay - but the area is a bit dull. I'd like to restore the allover luster to the bag and blend the area that was stained but not sure what to use that will darken the leather as little as possible. It's now a matter of texture - that bit is duller than the surrounding area - so I think it just needs some non-staining moisturizer.
I keep reading conflicting advice re Coach cleaning/conditioning products (they contain silicone?). Would like to use something really light to keep the look of the bag as unchanged as possible.
Thanks as always.

I noticed the eBay seller doesn't call it Bonnie Cashin but it definitely is a NYC bag that's HTF. The 9063 sure does have the same buckle look handles!

It's the one with the No.BIN that I think is not authentic. I could be wrong. I am still learning.

I went back and reviewed Hyacinth's original feedback on that serial number and she said that is was "Wonky, but probably authentic" so you were right to question it, even Hyacinth wasn't certain. We are all still learning! :smartass:
We have learned more about authenticating since then. Now we know that all BIN prefixes are fake. I'm sorry, but your bag isn't authentic. There are other issues with your bag as well, such the zipper pull isn't sewn all the way around and the buckle attachments are too low.

Moisturizer will only give you a temporary fix. As soon as it soaks in, the area will continue to look dull. You might try mixing just a tiny bit of acrylic gloss in with your conditioner. I've never tried this on an entire bag so you'd be experimenting, but I used it on places where acrylic paint has made the leather less shiny than the rest. The conditioner that gives the best shine is Blackrocks but it can temporarily darken. For a light non-darkening conditioner, I recommend Cadillac or Lexol, but I don't know how much shine you'll get. For great moisturizing, I use Leather CPR. It doesn't usually darken.

Hello ladies, it's been a long time since I stopped by. I admit to have been not so eager to rehab lately after a couple mishaps with mold, that appeared after giving a quick soak to great looking bags just out of shape, and after that I couldn't save them.

This time I come looking for advice, because I do not know what else to do.
I used a swingpack last summer, the Legacy Zebra 49222, that has a webbing strap with a dark purple/navy bluish shoulder piece, and also the ends that hold the strap to the hardware. At the end of the season I got caught in a storm and totally got drench, including the bag. I was careful to keep moving the leather shoulder piece, so in case that bled wouldn't stained the strap in one spot, but I guess it was not totally dry when I stored it and now that I got it out again to use it, there is a spot very noticeable were I left it, (that is not the spot where I wear it), and there are also some less noticeable marks all over.
First I tried to clean it with Coach Fabric cleaner just the big spot, nothing changed.
I tried Soilove, stain removers, Purex for colors, nothing changed.
I decided not to keep trying on the spot because I am making it even more noticeable from the rubbing and scrubbing.
So I put it in hot water making sure the leather pieces didn't get wet, and soaked it for a couple hours with the Purex and Soilove, but still no changes. I am so frustrated.

What would you advice me to do next, try any other product or technique? I thought regular bleach but I am not sure. I really do not want to keep scrubbing, the bag looks new and the strap old and grungy... Thank you!

I've tried so many things on these straps, and they remained dingy. You might try diluted peroxide if the machine washing doesn't help.

Thank you, that's good to know - but I gave it away as a gift a long time ago!

Thanks for your input, I will do that. I had other bags with this type of strap and I totally agree, it's hard to keep it looking good, but this is the first time it looks like has blotches of dirt, I love the bag, I would like to improve it

I've tried cleaning a couple of these straps unsuccessfully, too, but I'm just now remembering something I forgot to try! It's a paste of peroxide, Dawn, and baking soda. I've used this on clothes and it's gotten out stains that even straight bleach wouldn't. I'd test it in an inconspicuous area first. I got the Oxyclean gel after reading about it here and it worked better for me than Soilove in some cases. So if you already bought it, it's still worth having IMO.

I'm wondering about this too. I have a tan Ergo Hobo that is burnished and has some small water spots. I just searched this thread using "burnished" as the search term and there are several posts about it. Apparently others have dunked them. I'm off to read up on it!

I haven't had good luck dunking burnished leather. It makes the texture of the leather different. I think using Obenauf's LP or Black rocks is better than dunking. Maybe try vinegar on the water spots and see if that helps?

I second the vinegar reco. I'd be wary of CPR - too much moisture, maybe? I put it on my Ergo Retro Zip (also burnished) without thinking and it created some faint spots. I didn't dunk.
I'm glad this question came up, as I just got that burnished Rambler and probably would've thrown it in the sink out of habit!
UPDATE on using vinegar to treat stains on my #9226 Ergo Hobo: it worked! The stains vanished. :happydance:

I put straight vinegar on a Q-tip and rubbed lightly on the stains. After drying for 15-20 min, I buffed with microfiber cloth moistened with a tiny bit of Leather CPR.

Here are before and after pics:

Looks great! Also good to know that a little CPR is ok. Enjoy [emoji846]

It sounds like you're trying to remove skunk smell from a dog! That very mixture did bleach our black Schipperke..

Wow! It definitely needs to be tested first then lol! I used it on a colored top with no problem but maybe it reacts differently with protein fibers.
How long did it take for the fur to be black again? Did it at least remove the smell? That is a crazy cute breed!
