Hi all of you rehabbers! What is your expert opinion on what should be done to this bag? Does it just need cleaned/conditioned or does it need the infamous 'bath' I have been reading about? New to this so looking for expert opinions rather than going at it willy nilly

Thanks in advance for any insight you can give.

I would give it a bath without question. Most of the scratches will disappear and it definitely needs to be reshaped.

I agree. It will look 100% better after a bath, reshaping, and conditioning.

Thank you both! I'm anxious to try it after seeing such dramatic results on this thread. And since I decided to keep this one, I figured now is as good of time as any to try this. Any preference on conditioners to use afterwards? I've seen a lot of different products used.

My favorite conditioner is Leather CPR, with a final light coat of Blackrock Leather n Rich on top. Buff with horsehair brush between coats.

I wondered! How can you see that blurry creed?? I thought the turnlock might have a grooved back but that's blurry, too. I just got progressive lenses so I can't see anything right now!
The prefix is J8Y. There are a bunch of other similar listings for this seller. I started looking at them but there are too many. On some of them, the creeds are unreadable. Several I checked were authentic.

When you take off the feet, can you measure them in all directions and show what they look like on the attaching end? That would be so helpful.

Working on this project today. So I pulled off the feet on the stewardess and they're soaking in vinegar and baking soda right now. They are gross! But I don't want to clean them much knowing the brass will rub off easily and it's already half gone. They came off easily when I wedged a nail file in between the feet and the bag. I have washed the bag (even though it wasn't very dirty) and it's drying. I'm probably going to use a grey strap from an old court bag with this that's almost the same color as the edges of the flight bag since I find the navy blue straps I have are all a little too short to work as cross body straps.

I measured the feet for you and took these pictures. So they are about 12mm wide, 1 cm tall and about 1cm long prongs, very flexible:

Thank you! I didn't realize they were prongs, just in a different place than the prongs on the feet you see on ebay. Having the prongs on the edges like that seems more secure than the prongs in the center. The bag I had that was missing a foot was newer and there was just a tiny hole in the center so I thought there was just a center nail or screw.

I have been reading every page, starting with the old thread, up to page 483 of this one and am anxious to try a serious rehab. Would one of you experts please have a look at this bag: http://www.ebay.com/itm/162423905482?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
I love the shape and color but wonder whether it is too far gone. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I'm not an expert, but it looks like it's in pretty good condition. You should have it authenticated before you buy it, though.

Thanks Sonoma! Looking forward to trying it but I have to be honest, I am going to try my first all leather bath on an old Wilson bag. Lol I know it's not the same thing but it will help me to understand the process and if I ruin it, no great loss. I'm going into this with a "better safe than sorry" attitude.
