Yeah, as I remember, several years ago, we tried to get the company to disclose it's ingredients. They wouldn't deny or affirm that they changed the formula & removed the Silicone. If it works for you & you have been happy with the Long Term results..then go for it. It's just my opinion-I would use it on shoes or gloves, but not on my Vintage bags.Everyone is different-Some of us are CPR fans, some are die hard LT aficionados. You say Tomato...It's all good.CHEERS!

Well, I'm back! I haven't done many rehabs recently and I have piles of bags waiting for my attention. I have been avoiding thrift stores and craigslist and ebay because I sure don't need any more projects! But yesterday I found myself in a local strip mall with time to burn so I wandered into the Goodwill store. Within 5 minutes I had 6 bags in my hands, a Furla, a Hobo International, 2 Vera Bradleys, and 2 Coach bags - and they were all bargains with prices ranging from $3 to $7. In the old days I would have bought all of them but I resisted. I put back the Furla, the VBs, the Hobo Int, and one vintage black Coach bag with worn corners and exposed piping.

I should have also walked away from the British Tan Willis 9927 for $7 but that was hard to do and so I bought it. I figured I could use it for the hardware if it turned out to be fake, but Hyacinth has authenticated it and you can see more pictures of my new $7 Willis at the link below:

The bag is pretty clean and in generally good shape but it is missing a D-Ring and the hangtag, and (worst of all) the strap is also missing. It does have a small ink mark on the front (see pics below) but I hope that it will fade after a bath and conditioning.

I have been out of the rehab loop for so long that I don't know the current options. Does Coach still send out replacement D-Rings and hangtags for free? What is the best option for finding a replacement strap? I looked at Silver-Coach's store on ebay but I didn't see a British Tan strap for a willis.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

For a strap, the cheapest bet is ebay or thrift stores. I often look for a bag that is listed cheaply because those are often cheaper than straps listed by themselves. It will be harder matching the British tan color, since there are so many variations.

Thanks, does Coach still supply free D-Rings and hangtags for vintage bags?

In case you can't get the d ring from Coach, I've seen them on Etsy. Search for brass d ring screw.

Great find, well worth the time to restore to full glory!

I was able to get some tags about 6 months ago, but they were so horrid, I never used them. Very cheap, super shiny gold metal. The horse and carriage logo stamp is so small, you can hardly tell what it is. Anyway, the CSR that I was emailing with to obtain them said she thought they were phasing out the replacement parts and repair altogether. My experience is that you get a different answer every time you call or email, so it's worth always worth a try!

I think the d-rings from Silver Coach work as replacements. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Two-Replace...e-Purse-Handbag-Luggage-D-Rings-/390369971364

They may also have a replacement strap that would work.

As far as a hangtag, try asking at your boutique or outlet store if they have an extra one that would match. Mine have always been happy to help me. They had several gigantic ziplock bags of hangtags and helped me pick one that looked right.

Silver Coach will probably make you a strap, but it might cost more than you want to.spend.

Hello everybody:wave:!
At this very moment when I'm writing this my very first vintage (I guess? it's said to be made in New York) Coach City bag is getting a warm bath of Fairy and water. So I'm very new to this Coach rehab thing! Though I've once machine-washed a Liebeskind (a German brand) cross-body leather bag and it turned out very fine, for the bag that is. Not so well for the washing machine though, as it went running around the house during the spinning circle:lol:, I guess because the wet leather bag is rather heavy and and so the spinning was unbalanced. Well the washing machine survived. So I can't say I'm frighten of dunking a Coach, more like exciting to see how it turn out!

The bag I received is in very good shape, some used mark around the piping and light scratches here and there but I think nothing a warm bath and some conditioners can't cure. I don't have access to the brands that are often mentioned in this thread, so I have to made do with what I have, something like:
Collonil 1909 Leather Lotion
Here comes the before-photos, I'll upload the after-photos when it's her own self again
