A shoe repair guy just told me Meltonian is out of production?! Has anyone else heard this?
Apparently their computer software that controls the color mixing malfunctioned and compromised a lot of product before they caught it. They decided to stop production 8-9 months ago, he said.
If you use it, you might want to stock up!

I recently found this out when an eBay seller sent me a different brand called Kelly's because they were out of Meltonian. I tried the Kelly's in light brown and it worked fine, but since I never owned that color in Meltonian I'm not sure how close a match it is. The seller said the colors are pretty close, and said he preferred the quality of Kellys over Meltonian anyway.

Hi everyone! I have a really basic question, has anyone dunked a Willis or another bag with a dowel at the top? Is it made of brass or something less waterproof like wood? Thanks in advance!

I recently dunked a Willis and asked this same question here. It's a wooden dowel. The advice given to me here was that it's a-ok to dunk, and my bag came out just fine. Hope that helps :)

I tried that, not super glue, but leather cement and it still didn't work. I think a bath might work since I was able to paint my bag after I dipped it in RIT dye.

Congratulations!

Zomg! I just discovered there's a Tandy store in town. I saw on their website today they have something called Eco-Flo Waterstain. I'm going by there next week to see what they can recommend on the pink legacy bag before I paint it.

Has anyone tried the Waterstains?

On another track now... has anyone dunked a Dooney Florentine satchel? I bought a used one and whew, she needs a bath something fierce. Any hesitation from you ladies? My concern was the (what I assume to be) suede lining of the tassels.

That bag is gorgeous
I have a couple of used Florentines but have hesitated to dunk b/c of their vachetta trim. Is yours dyed or is it vachetta with patina? Hopefully someone who's taken the plunge will chime in...

Well, I did give the poor thing a bath and it's drying now. There didn't seem to be any ill effects-no bleeding, etc. It seemed to be totally parched and soaked up the water immediately like nobody's business. This is the second Florentine I put in a bath.

I don't think it's vachetta, doesn't seem to be anyway-has a different look and texture. I could be wrong, of course. [emoji4]

I have dunked several bags with vachetta trim though and had no problems whatsoever. Sometimes it actually improves them, especially ones with water stains, etc. I think I posted one I redid in this thread last year. You just have to be sure they dry evenly and don't lie on themselves (drip dry/hang, don't lie on its side) because they will water stain. I blot them dry and rotate every 10-15 minutes in front of a fan. And I put a coat of Leather CPR on them right after blotting the first time. A bath does darken the vachetta anywhere from one to more shades, depending on the age and wear of the leather, I guess.

The photo doesn't seem to be working so here it is again. IMG_1477817920.563475.jpg
I will post another one after it's dry. [emoji39]

Me neither, but what comes to mind is someone using it for some kind of fraudulent "project."
(People have been known to sew authentic parts onto fake bags, KWIM?)

ETA: Although I suppose someone could use it to replace the lining on a legitimate bag too...maybe I'm too cynical!
Well, then I am cynical too! That's the first thing I thought she was proposing.. "Looking for an Authentic Coach lining for your non authentic coach"? And soon you do that, you just made yourself a counterfeit.

I have had good luck getting ink out of fabric linings. I use warm water with dawn detergent in it and use a soft toothbrush after brushing that i use a product called Tuff Stuff found in the auto department at Walmart it's in a spray can and comes out as a foam, leaving the foam on for a few minutes then use the toothbrush and brush in circles. Also stock up on white wash cloths and use them on nothing but your purse cleaning, I soak all wash cloths in water and bleach when cleaning those.Other products I have in my kit is Shout and Zout. I don't use these products on leather except for the dawn . It takes elbow grease but is so worth it.
