Just finished this bag and wanted to share it with you guys. It's probably my best rehab yet, and I just LOVE how it turned out! Dunked it, followed by one coat Lexol and two coats Leather CPR (first time using this, really like the results!) and finished with Blackrock. I think she needs a scarf, or maybe a charm?

Thanks for letting me share
Congrats! It looks amazing. You did a great job!

I feel you [emoji20] I've resorted to custom mixing acrylic paints to match before I dunk them. That way all my "oops" color test spots wash off. It's a pain in the butt getting it right though. Sometimes, it's never right. At least this one is for me so it doesn't have to be perfect. The ones I do for my family make me sweat it out a bit more-I want those to look perfect. I would love to get my hands on Coach's secret paint mixes. [emoji23]
That isn't a fuchsia duffle (with silver hardware) is it? That is one of the colors I never could match.

2012 Legacy duffles are the bane of my rehabbing existence. I can't find anything to restore the loss of color in the corners.

Uh oh - I have the fuchsia and the carnelian and had just gotten them back out to work on Sat., too. Of course the corners are worn and need touch ups...and now I'm nervous!
And are these things conditioner resistant?! Only thing I've tried that made any noticeable difference is Obenaufs, and that only softened the really worn one I bought mainly for the tassels. Nothing has helped with color loss from wear or small scratches.

Patent leather is easy care most of the time. However, it is very easy to get stains that get underneath the coating. I think that is what has happened here. I don't think you'll be able to get it clean without taking drastic measures. I've never heard of a patent leather cleaner. If it were mine, I'd try painting it. I think you can use glossy fabric paint (puff paint) on it. I can't remember. It's be a long time since I rehabbed patent. I know nail polish doesn't work!

Otherwise, you could try to remove the coating by using more nail polish remover, then attempt to clean the leather underneath, and afterward add a gloss finish to replace the coating.

Wow, I am uncomfortable with everything you just described. I have never done any of that before. But I would definitely like to learn. The wristlet is probably the least daunting because it's the smallest and also the worst condition. If I paint, does the paint "chip" off?

Is it just duffles or that entire 2012 Legacy line? I loved the colors they introduced and wanted everything! But I noticed how "sensitive" the leather was to color transfer and scratching and color loss. Didn't even have to be worn a lot and I had issues.

There is something weird about them. I couldn't get the paint to work. It just soaked in and made the worn part look even darker. I tried Leather Refinisher too and that didn't work either. If you give them a bath first, it might prepare the leather for accepting paint. I didn't dunk mine.

I have a Legacy bucket bag and a Rambler's Legacy from that line and they are fine. The leather on the bucket is fantastic. It is mostly the duffles. I haven't had a problem with color transfer. The corners wear extremely easily. Even bags I've rarely carried have wear. I keep putting Blackrocks on the corners and I think that helps prevent more wear.

That is really good to know, as I was considering ordering leather refinisher. I might dunk the fuchsia one and see what happens since it's unusable as is due to fading. If that doesn't work, I've got a bottle of 'wine' Rit on deck I just love this style and hate to give up until I've tried everything. Thanks for sharing!

RIT actually works pretty good but it is very hard to get it even. I dunked a duffle in RIT. It came out great...except that the hot water melted the edgecoating and left little brown marks everywhere! The metallic Coach name was gone too. After that I had no choice but to paint the entire thing with Leather Refinisher. It went on okay over the RIT but the texture isn't as nice as the original leather.

I don't think paint will chip off. I had a bag with a patent stripe that I touched up with paint. I had no problems with it lasting. I'm not sure what kind of paint is best. You'll have to experiment.

Thank you! So do I skip Leather CPR and go straight to vinegar? I have cleaning vinegar. Use it straight? Not diluted? Gulp. Ok I will try. Will update what happens.
Use white vinegar straight. You can also use a magic eraser. I dip the magic eraser in the vinegar. If you have dark spots, you might be able to bleach them with zit cream, but you run the risk of lightening the spots too much. I've used RIT color remover on leather - again, it is unpredictable how much lightening you'll get. For conditioning, I'd use Cadillac.

ETA: Whateve's fingers are faster! :)

There are a few more good posts following that one - I think she used it straight w/ Cadillac conditioner afterward.
When I ran out of Leather Honey cleaner a couple of months ago, I started cleaning all my leather bags with undiluted distilled white vinegar from the grocery store as a first step. I haven't run into any problems yet (besides my husband complaining about the smell!)
Just remembered Coach493 & Whateve were talking about using vinegar on a vachetta Ergo a few pages back, too.
