I think it's a beautiful bag even with the spots. Personally I wouldn't dye it. The dye might be absorbed unevenly...or other unforeseen consequences.
I can't decide...so torn.

Is it dry yet? I have an ivory/tan Spectator that I've dunked 3 times. It always comes out with one spot, but when it dries it disappears again. I'd say wait a few days.

Yep, it's 95% dry. I really want a dark wine bag so maybe that's why I'm leaning towards doing it?

Do I dare?????

I dunked her but she came out with some spots that I'm not sure will come out with conditioner.
Personally I wouldn't. I love the wine color but I would be afraid of it not dyeing evenly. I think RIT is best for refreshing the color so I try to use a color that is close the original color. I don't think it will cover well enough to change the color enough. You'll end up with a blend of the two colors. Plus, isn't that bag really vintage? I would be afraid to destroy a piece of history.

I think Catbird9 said it was made in the late 90s, so to me it isn't quite vintage, lol. For some reason, 50s and 60s are vintage to me. [emoji23]

I put leather conditioner on it and will see how things look in the morning. I may try the acrylic paint w/conditioner before I go to extremes. It's mostly just the one spot on the front that's lighter than everything else that really bugs me. Otherwise, I like the rugged look.

The weird thing is, it looks darker after a bath than it did before-even though about a lb of dirt exited. So odd.

Thanks for hopefully talking me off the RIT ledge [emoji15]

I finally found the "before" pix of my Dooney rehab. I talked about it on the Vintage thread today. Here are some pix:

Wow, that's gorgeous! Amazing work. I've been attracted to this style but there are so many fakes I've been afraid. Did you have to fix up the color at all? I have a Dooney that needs some color touch-up and I'm having trouble getting the color exactly right - it's taupe.

Wow amazing cleaning !! What did you use on the water?
Just blue Dawn in the water and a good nail brush to scrub. Follow up was with Leather CPR. I love Dawn; it works on a multitude of sins, lol.

You are going to get me looking at D&B's now!! (Minus the spider eggs!)
Go, girl!!! [emoji4]

Ugh, paint matching is no fun at all! There always seems to be a "hidden" color that influences the tone. I did a light blue Coach Hamptons last year that gave me fits. [emoji849] I didn't touch this one up at all so there are a few light spots that remain on the back but they don't bother me. I may tackle them at some point when I have nothing else to do, haha!

Fake Dooneys are pretty easy to spot once you get the hang of it. The stitching and thread color is always the dead giveaway for me. Honestly, I find them much easier than Coaches.

Holy guacamole! Your transformation is incredible - I love it! I really enjoyed all the 'during' pics too.
Thanks! I love rehabbing!

I hope this is the right thread to ask this question, but I couldn't think of another one. For those who sell their rehabbed bags: I've noticed several bags that are cross listed i.e. on ebay and Etsy. My question is, what do you do if two buyers buy the bag before you have a chance to take one of the listings down. I realize that this would be a rare occasion, but curious about what to do if it happens.

This happened to me. I was just told by the seller that it was sold somewhere else.

I used be a seller on both platforms, selling mostly vintage clothing, jewelry and shoes. I did cross post but had tags on the items in storage reminding me to take the listings down when I pulled items to ship. Never happened to me but I did worry about it.
p.s. I never sold purses because I love them all too much to part with them, lol!

Nice. I happened to just open a eBay box with a bag that needs a new turn lock. Are they easy to remove and install? View attachment 3439684 It's very wobbly.

I've never done that myself, but apparently it's pretty simple. The issue for me would be that the new turnlocks aren't the same as the vintage ones (quality? finish? I dunno, but it might not look right to me). I've only had one bag so far that had a wobbly post. I was able to gently polish it, and it stayed closed when fastened. I decided to leave it alone.

Well, I have completed this particular rehab "rite of passage" and replaced a turnlock! I'm happy to report that the new one Coach sent was very nice, and really perks up the bag.
