Yes the same bag. I think it's called a Willis Murphy crossbody. Here are the before photos:

All the photos above are daytime photos. It's a dark taupe color
This is after one bath and one treatment of conditioner. Photos taken at night. Left is no flash. Right is with flash.

It is a Murphy bag. I think that might be mold on the corner in the first set of pictures. It is hard to tell, but that would be my guess from the pictures..

You can go over the bag with a solution mixed 50/50 of denatured alcohol and water to kill the mold spores. (If you don't have denatured alcohol, rubbing alcohol and water would also work. Vinegar and water would also work.) Since it may have mold, it may be a good idea to put it back out in the sun periodically since you've conditioned, but just watch the leather to make sure it doesn't get too dried out. If it does, condition. A conditioner that also says it inhibits mold would be good for it.

Based on your after-conditioning picture, I would say keep conditioning at least every 24 hours or so. It is way too soon to figure what else you might need to do the bag at this point. Bags will often change dramatically as you keep conditioning them. I think it will be beautiful.

Hello all. I am new to Coach rehabs and I recently purchased a cheap court bag and I could tell when I got it there was something on the bag like shoe polish. I've washed it about 3 times and every time massive amounts of blue black dye seems to come out. I tried to give it a scrub with saddle soap and murphy's wood oil soap to get whatever is on it out but no luck in getting it completely out. Any suggestions??

Acetone may get it out. Search this thread for "acetone" and "shoe polish."

I've used cheap nail polish remover from the Dollar Store, others have recommended industrial strength acetone (wear gloves!)

Put the acetone on a terry cloth towel and scrub all over the bag using firm pressure. It may take some elbow grease.

Acetone dries out the leather so you will need to bathe it again using warm water and a good detergent (I used Tide laundry detergent on mine, but something like Dawn dish detergent might work just as well.) Scrub with nail brush. Rinse very thoroughly. Try to have no blue-black residue visible in the water.

Dry with towels, blocking to shape. Start to CONDITION while bag is still damp. You'll need multiple applications of conditioner over several days.

Good luck!

So I've tried that with an entire bottle of acetone I had and it did run black but I haven't been able to get the water anywhere near clear. I'm going into experiment mode with this now since it was cheap. So far I've let it soak in Oxiclean stain remover and HOT water and the black dye or shoe polish is oozing out of it. If it doesn't end up anywhere near clear I might just run it in the washer machine with hot water and Oxiclean to see if that gets the majority of the dye out.

So I bought another Bonnie tote but the coloring is ruined . It used to be tan brown. I talked to a leather professional who told me it looks like a rehab gone wrong and can never be restored to its original color. So now my choice is to make it dark chocolate brown or black. I'm kinda saddened that it can't be restored to the original state. Have any of you had done a completely made over? I'm going to get this one done by them.

I was told the taupe Murphy that I recently posted, the damage can't be repaired and taupe is a very hard color to match. I will attempt it to dye it black myself. :)

Seems like the heat is helping. I'll be interested to hear if it comes out in the wash...so to speak. Shoe polish...what a pain!

Can you post a picture of the Bonnie tote?

Are you sure the Murphy is damaged beyond repair? Did you treat it for mold? Maybe after lots of conditioning those spots will look a lot better.

Oh this one is bad! It's going to get a makeover. I've decided on black.View attachment 3448393View attachment 3448394

I think we've discussed that bag before. At least it looked familiar when I saw the listing. Didn't the listing say something about trying to remove a dye attempt? I actually kind of like the way it looks now, but I like bags with a story. I'll be interested to see it after you have it re-dyed.

I need advice for these two. The top bag has stains on the suede and leather. I'm a little worried about bleeding. I've cleaned the lining pretty well and the few things I've tried on the smooth leather didn't work. Would you dunk it? What is the best cleaner to use, especially for the suede? I don't have a good track record with suede rehabs!
For the wallet, which is a Dooney, those white marks are much more noticeable in person. Is there anything that will blend them in better? It scratches really easily and each scratch turns white. Even when I tried to use a rag to wipe it down, if I used any pressure, it make white marks.

I kind of like the way it looks. It is unique.

That bag was one of four featured in my post on the Vintage Coach Photos and Chat thread discussing "patina":
