A few weeks ago I picked up this doctor satchel at the gw outlet where I paid by the pound so it maybe costed $1. It was really dirty and flat and smelled like cigarettes. I soaked it and reshaped it. Most of the marks came out, the smell totally came out, and the shape was fixed! Also, I frankensteined her together with a same-color-different-brand xbody strap and a hangtag from another Coach of mine. I am officially in love!!!!! I can't find my before pic right now, but I wanted to share an after. The difference is shocking! View attachment 3258522
Wow, that looks wonderful! Great job!

Well done! It's amazing that the smoke smell came out. What cleaner(s) did you use, if I may ask?

Thanks yall :) I had never seen this one before either. I ran it through the authentication thread first even though it seemed pretty legit. It passed :D And it's a made in USA bag too! My first!

Catbird, I used regular dawn dish liquid and white vinegar in hot water for 45 mins, then 15 mins of fresh water. It worked so well in getting rid of that odor! There's not a hint of smoke smell!!

Thanks for the details...good to know!

Hi all!! I have a Legacy Demi with a convertible strap. The strap won't straighten out from being in the same position for so long. Any suggestions on straightening and flattening? Thank you!!

Have you tried conditioning it really well with a leather conditioner then hanging it to dry? That always works with my straps! Edit: I did have a convertible strap that was stubborn once. I massaged it out while aiming my hair dryer at it and that also worked.

I have it conditioned and hung as we speak. It seems to have helped some. The hair dryer is a great idea!! Thank you!!

Good morning ladies, I have a question for those of you who has experience in fixing a hole, although not a see-through, but quite visible, on the surface of the leather covered kisslock. I just got this foldover clutch from (I think) mid or late 2000-s secondhand locally, and it's in a very good condition, so I only wanted to refresh it with a leather cleaner and moisturize. While cleaning, I accidentally scratched the surface of the kisslock with my nail and a good chunk of leather (about 1/4") fell off, baring the metal underneath. I was in shock how easily that happened - I'm usually very careful with my bags, and all one would expect from the effort was maybe a visible surface scratch, but not a hole! I even thought it's not a real leather, but my husband said it looks real to him, just very thin. He said most likely they use low-quality pieces in the areas that usually stay covered (the kisslock is located within the fold). The clutch isn't even that old, not even 10. Anyway, I need to fix it somehow, although I understand it won't be possible to hide it 100%. And since it's not just a surface scratch and metal is showing, I'm thinking about some sort of a paint with a resin quality (I'm sure there's a proper term for that, I just don't know it). Probably the aces of leather revival that visit this forum are familiar with those materials. I'm also attaching the picture of this disaster.

And while I'm hear, one more thing - I actually try not to annoy people with questions if I can find answers by searching, but Rehab and Rescue Club threads are enormous, and I'm completely lost with this one. There're two bags that my sister has asked me to reshape, one with a lining and one without it. They're practically new, but both got buried underneath a pile of clothes and lost their shape. My question is how you can restore the shape without washing the bag (and without getting it wet if possible), especially the Legacy tote with the signature striped lining?

Any ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Good day to you all!

First you need to clip all the loose things sticking out, maybe sand it lightly. Then you can use fabric dimensional paint, sometimes called puff paint to fill it in. Smooth it with your finger to the right shape. It will likely be shinier than your leather when it dries but you can fix that by painting acrylic craft paint over the top.

For the bag without the lining, I would recommend a bath unless it isn't a Coach. You'd be surprised at how much nicer these bags look after a bath. For both bags there are a couple reshaping techniques that might work: stuffing with towels hot from the dryer, hanging stuffed in a steamy bathroom while you take a shower. Pictures of these bags would help me advise you.

First of all, thank you so much for responding, whateve! I had a feeling something like fabric dimensional paint existed as I knew there had to be others who make the same mistake. After the damage I'm so terrified of even touching that clutch, but I definitely will and I'd keep you posted about the results.

The bag without the lining is 1999 Stewardess that my sister never used and totally forgot about. I have washed old leather Coach bags before, but I'd never think about dunking perfectly new one - however, I guess this one has nothing to loose and no washing will make it look more pathetic.

Sorry for the poor quality photos - that's the best I could do inside in the evening. It's pretty clear, I guess, that these bags could use some TLC.

Wondering if I can get some input on something from more experienced caretakers - I have a beautiful Fossil tote that has developed some kind of spotting on one side panel. This side has a roughy, more wrinkled texture than anywhere else on the bag.

I'm wondering if it's just old water spots since this bag has been a hard worker for me. Any thoughts or suggestions about addressing it?

I don't know what it is. I would just condition it to death, following up with Blackrocks. I had some spots on a Fossil bag that I thought were water; later I decided they were probably coffee - nothing worked, but conditioning made them less obvious.
