There really isn't much you can do for ink. If you try to remove it, you'll most likely just lighten the leather around the ink, making it more noticeable. If the ink marks are just lines and not really dark, I don't think they will spread, or if they do, it won't be much. It is when you have an ink spill or a spot that soaks all the way through the leather that you have to be more careful. What color is the bag? I have a British tan bag now that has some stains. I'm trying to load it up with conditioners that darken so the stains are less noticeable. I had fantastic results removing ink from a white bag by bleaching it with zit cream. I wouldn't recommend it for any other color bag though.Thank you! I'm pretty happy with how well it cleaned up considering it was made in China. I'm carrying it around now.My next project is a glove-tanned leather purse made in the USA. It has a few ink marks on the outside. I'm debating on whether or not to try to make them less noticeable...if that's even possible. My fear is the ink will run when I dunk the bag.
I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with the straps but I'll tell you what I would do. First you need to cut off all the hanging edge coating and redo it. You can use Fiebings edgekote but it is very thin and takes a long time to build up a smooth edge. There is a new Fiebings product that looks promising: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...rue&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_5&smid=AF81SRBMBCBM2
I haven't tried it yet. What I usually use is fabric paint or a combination of leather cement, paint and edgekote. For the straps themselves, if they are too floppy, I paint them with leather cement to try to fill in all the cracks. For a recent bag, I used artist's acrylic paint, which is thicker than craft paint, and then used acrylic gloss varnish (available with the craft paint) on top. In my experience, Leather Refinisher works well on certain types of leather but is fairly thin so won't cover darker stains. I've had it work like a dream on faded pebbled leather, restoring it to a new appearance, but when I tried it on this recent bag, it didn't cover the dingy appearance of the bag. This particular bag also had some ink marks. The only thing that covered those was the acrylic artist paint. Then the gloss varnish was put on top to make it more permanent and shiny.
For the fabric parts of the bag, you could try fabric paint, or RIT dye painted on.
I think I've had something that absorbed in spots like that too. It could be mold damage, meaning the mold is dead but the damage is still there.

After photos: I thought I was pretty successful in getting the white substance off the back pocket until I took a photo and saw some still there (which was a disappointment.) I'm not sure what happened to the zipper pull in the interior but it's eroded and not as shiny as it should be. I put Brasso on it but I don't think anything will make it look new.
I think it is almost impossible. Color transfer from patent is likely permanent. The Waverly case is coated canvas and it always seems like stains on coated canvas get underneath the coating.I need your help again! I'm going through all my bags and found some coin purses. One is white - the waverly ivory coin purse and the other is a sig card holder. I think the patent color transferred on to the white leather. Any idea how to remove that?
Thanks.
You're welcome!Quick update.
After a couple more rounds of Obenauf's the dots are much less noticeable. I tried to scrape very carefully in case that was some sort of paint and now was easier to remove, and what I noticed is like there are tiny, tiny holes. I was thinking that same as in some bags that the inside suede is different color, if for some reason those are holes they are showing the color inside? I do not know what to think anymore. The bag looks really nice now and I am giving up on the dots, whatever they are.
Thank you everyone that tried to help.
Whateve, thanks for the very throughout advice on the Madelaine, I didn't try anything yet on those handles, they could be dirt only... (I won't be that lucky).

Now I'm certain it is mold. That is what happened to a bag of mine. I didn't notice any mold before the bath. Then afterward there were all these tiny dents like freckles, like all the moisture was removed from these spots so they indented in. The leather was permanently damaged.
Thanks for sharing mrk2014, and congrats that the dots are less noticeable now.Quick update.

WOW you did an amazing job !! Thanks for sharing !Looks great!
Nicely done! I don't think I've ever seen this particular satchel by Coach before, great findA few weeks ago I picked up this doctor satchel at the gw outlet where I paid by the pound so it maybe costed $1. It was really dirty and flat and smelled like cigarettes. I soaked it and reshaped it. Most of the marks came out, the smell totally came out, and the shape was fixed! Also, I frankensteined her together with a same-color-different-brand xbody strap and a hangtag from another Coach of mine. I am officially in love!!!!! I can't find my before pic right now, but I wanted to share an after. The difference is shocking! View attachment 3258522
