When dying leather I have always used a product called Eco-Flo by Tandy Leather. I have used it on very worn spots, like piping, that had color but needed some shine as buffing didn't bring it back to life as well as I liked. It is available on Amazon. A little goes a long ways. I think it would work well on your boo boo holiday123. Pic includedImageUploadedByPurseForum1447448973.455407.jpg

that's great, I'll try it. thank you!

Hello! I currently have Kiwi conditioner but hear very good things about Leather CPR. In your experience do you think I would notice a big difference if I tracked some down for my City? Thanks! [emoji2]
definitely. In my opinion, some conditioners are fine for new bags just to preserve and protect them. For rehabbed bags you need heavier duty conditioners like CPR. You can get CPR at Bed Bath and Beyond. Sometimes it is at Tuesday Morning, TJ Maxx or Marshalls. They also have a version of it at some tack shops.

I think it is very important to get Blackrocks too. That you will probably have to order online.

ETA: the other day I saw a woman carrying a vintage city bag. I wanted to tell her how nice it would look if it was rehabbed but I didn't dare!

Thanks Whateve! I sure appreciate all of your help and wonderful knowledge!

any recommendation for a leather refinishing spray for coach pebbled leather borough? I had a purple marker mark on my blue chambray, stupidly cleaned it with goof off and ended up with an ugly 6" white streak, proceeded to paint with matching color, but now want to put a top coat over it to make sure the paint stays. Not sure if this is true, but I asked at Sherwin Williams for acrylic paint and sales lady told me all their paint was acrylic...I have some edge kote in neutral laying around, would this work? Will try to upload pics if I can figure it out..
You could also use an acrylic varnish. I use the kind they sell in craft stores. They make it in matte and shiny versions.

Thank you Farmer Cyndy!! This may be the answer to a problem I'm having rehabbing a very worn & abused strap on a vintage Sonoma I just bought. ( See post 10195). I used Blackrock & it came out looking matte.....

Now I'm thinking of rewashing the strap, conditioning with Leather Therapy, then try the Eco-Flo.

Do you think the Super Shene will be too shiny? (see att pic of strap compared to finish on bag)

TIA!

The red bag is one I used Eco-flo all over as it was well worn ( it also had many layers of conditioning, etc. underneath it) the black purse was in good shape Black has only been conditioned and buffed. As you can see, the Eco-flo didn't add anymore shine then just buffing if the leather was in good condition.ImageUploadedByPurseForum1447509670.905623.jpg purses are coach 9566

Ps, that bump in your strap I have found in many straps ( but not on the old heavy leather styles like the Janice) that were hung up for years and that is where the leather broke down. I have found no fix. You can see this on the black strap that was actually on the "good" Black purse, I just love to switch straps around.ImageUploadedByPurseForum1447510364.701020.jpg

Great info - thanks so much, and for your fast response. This has really been bugging me.

I think you're right - the owner must've had this bag hanging up for years.
The strap is actually narrower as well as thinner at the top. I own 12 other vintage Sonomas, and all of the straps are fine, so I couldn't figure this one out or what to do. Mystery solved!

I just put the Eco Super-Shene in my Amazon cart, am so happy to have a solution.
I really appreciate this forum and your help!!

Thanks again!

Frankly, the "correct" way to store coach bag straps are to take them off and put them inside. Of course, we all don't have shelves to put the purses on to store. What we "restore" is the misused ones or old styles that have been in piles for years.

I hear you! I can't take the straps off of the Sonomas, so luckily I have enough shelves to store them on. If I run out of shelves then I guess I'll know it's time to stop buying.:smile1:

I'm new to rehabbing, and am really enjoying trying to figure out the history of these beautiful bags and how to restore them. So happy to have this forum as a resource!

Ha..ha.. Yes I bought a Sonoma and found out I only have "one" bag!. I just love switching the straps to make a color pop ( tassels and hangtags too) In the purse I posted I have a brown, red, and black. So basically I can have 6, even 9 bags out of 3! That black bag can go with red, brown, or black strap and hangtags and bingo- what a deal! Several styles can do that too. I love swingbacks and I can even change a handbag to a swingbacks with some styles AND a handbag when ever I want to change styles. The beauty of Coach styles is awesome to usefulness and class!
