Hi ledobe! I appreciate any feedback and suggestions. First, I'm just wanting to clean the poor girl. Thinking ivory soap on the outside and tuff stuff on the inside. Any other favorite solutions? I see a lot of mentioning of dunking...I'll look that up to get more detail but the little bits that I read sounds like this bag may not be a suitable candidate...i do think the leather is dyed through though...

Good luck with your project, most of the time is a learning process of hits and misses. I dunk Coach bags all the time, I even put them in the washer, something I would have never dared to do before, but I don't know with your bag and that type of liner and leather if it would work or make things worse. Let us know how it goes :smile1:

Hi ladies. Sorry this isn't a coach bag question. Is there is a dooney and bourke rehab thread, please let me know! I got this bag today and it's filthy. I plan to clean it up and waiting for my supplies to arrive. I'm curious if anyone have any suggestions for improving the corner scuffs--all 4 corners are badly scuffed so showing 2 of the worst ones...It's pretty significant and it looks like water damage too. Any touch up color and polishing recommendations? Thanks so much in advance! View attachment 3151224View attachment 3151225View attachment 3151227View attachment 3151228

Personally, I would redye. It looks like the yellow was removed during an attempt to clean it. Fortunately redyeing is easy once you find a matching yellow shade. There are threads on bag redyeing in the forum :)

Poshmark is really good with that, sometimes too much though. I sell on Poshmark too and had their support approve a return for a pair of used shoes for having wear on the soles. Really?? I was naïve then to not show the soles and to think.. Oh who would care what the bottoms look like if you're buying used shoes. Eventually I got my funds so good on poshmark for being understanding. But I digress.

Mercari though, I will definitely uninstall it if support doesn't try to amend their fail of a decision. Can't continue giving them my business if I know they're going to be unhelpful like this.

That eBay seller probably decided to cut her loss by just refunding you the original shipping and cost, because she wouldn't be able to sell the bag honestly when she got it back! Everything else were just excuses, in my opinion. Tsk...

One thing I learned the hard way is to disclose every single thing on your items, going through with a magnifying glass, because people will use any thing as excuse if they want to return it.

The seller of my bag was delusional, to the point of relisting the bag the moment I asked for a refund, she had the bag listed for at least two weeks (at a higher price even), after adding to the description that there was a cut "somewhere" in it.

These are pictures of the "almost new bag". The only close up picture she had was the creed, so I knew it was authentic. They didn't magnify so what you could see was OK, my fault of course was not asking for better pictures. Then this is what I got.

I am asking advice to the pros on how to if possible fix the cut, and second how to clean the handles. I am going to consider this one of those learning/practice projects.

Coming back today with a tip for the "thrifty" rehabbers like me LOL.

I was using Leather CPR in the 12oz tube, I had squeezed, shook down, fold the top over, etc.. like you do with toothpaste to get the most of it, but got to a point of course that I couldn't get any more out, I was about to finish a purse and I just needed a bit more, so I decided to cut the end to see if I could scrape what I needed, and to my surprise I got out (no kidding) about 1/3 cup of lotion still in the tube, that was all over inside but when I squeezed it was not coming out.

So there you go... these tubes are not empty when you think they are ;)

For the cut, I would slip an iron-on patch underneath inside the hole, then iron it so the tear is glued to the iron-on patch. For the handles, you can use very fine steel wool to sand off some of that grime. You probably won't get it back to the way it was when it was new. You can also try cleaning it with vinegar. If you still aren't happy, you can coat them in Leather Refinisher.

I have two bags the same color and I only paid a couple bucks a piece for them. Any tips on the brand and shade of dye for a cream color leather coach? Or would this need redyed? Or any ideas on how to remove the marks and fix where the color has worn. Has anyone ever rehabbed metallic leather? I bought a MK bag (it was cheap, $15) and the metallic is work off some places. Would using acrylic paint kind of fill it in do it doesn't look so bad?

eta: I always forget about leather dye (if those metallic bags are actually leather) so I think I'll try that. I don't even care if it isn't perfect.
I'm excited!

I have not rehabbed a metallic bag. But I did dye a pair of sandals from natural vachetta to an antique silver using Tarrago shoe cream. It might work if you're putting little dabs on a bag.

Hi everyone! Seeing all these beauties restored inspired me to try too! I am waiting for this to arrive but thought i'd get a jump on ideas for where to start first. Can I bath her? I'm thinking I'd need to try to repaint the scuff marks. Thoughts?

I am a total newbie, but if I were you, I'd dunk it first and condition it and see from there. I thought one of my bags was a total lost cause because it was so completely worn and faded around the edge/piping. (I was really upset when I opened the package) But then it all came back with conditioner! People have also recommended wood 'n stuff leather refinisher, which I haven't tried yet, but the colors are meant to match coach colors. Here's the color chart link, and here's the product sample link. I hope to see pictures of your bags soon! :smile1:

Thanks. I thought about it some more and I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I might just try to dab it with some paint. The inside definitely needs cleaned but from the pics, it looks structurally sound. I'm buying it from Poshmark so who knows.

I think it depends on how bad it gets after the wash. The paint might not be enough so the shoe cream might actually work better as long as it dries.

Here are some pics. I apologize for posting a MK in the Coach section but you ladies know your stuff!!

Thank you so much! I will follow your advice and post the results, I hope to improve the bag, if not at least learn the techniques to apply to bags I care about.
