Hi,
I just purchased Legacy Black Duffle (19889). Has anybody ever washed new legacy line? I have only washed couple of vintage legacy without any lining and leather was thick and they all turned out great.
I was thinking to wash this duffle since the lining is black too or is it too risky and I might ruin the leather? TIA

Why do you want to wash it? You can pull out the lining to wash it. If the leather gets wet, it would be okay but I wouldn't soak it. The color doesn't go all the way through so you could get some color loss and the leather might wrinkle.

Ok, thanks, I'm glad I asked. I already washed inside lining and I will just massage it with leather CPR. It shows corner wear, would Blackrock be enough for corners? Tia

Most likely they won't wash out. The pen mark is permanent. There is a scrape on the bottom. If you look at the picture of the bottom, what is that darker green patch on the right side?

It looks like a water stain. I noticed that too. You just helped me decide. For that price it should be in excellent shape, and it seems like there are just too many flaws. From the front it looks like a beauty.

I don't think Blackrocks will cover the corners completely. It might help. Since it is black, it might work better than on other colors. I've been meaning to work on the corners of my fuchsia duffle, but I haven't yet so I can't say what will work. Some people have used Sharpie but that would scare me. If I'm going to use color, I want to be able to remove it if it doesn't match.

I think you made the right decision. This color is very unforgiving. You need to find one in excellent shape as any stains would likely still be visible after rehabbing.

Whateve, in regards to stains & rehabbing... When I dunk a bag & stains blend into the wet leather, I'm no longer sure what I'm cleaning or if it's getting clean. Then, not until it's almost dry, can I see what stains remain and/or appear. Do you usually rewash & continue trying to remove them? I kinda dread re-doing the process & am usually impatient to use the bag. I rehab bags to carry & don't mind vintage leather showing some of its age but I am just wondering what's the norm in rehabbing?

It is normal to not be able to see the stains once the leather is wet. That is frustrating! If it is a major stain, I'll try to work on it before I dunk and then immediately dunk right after. Generally if it still there after the bath, I don't usually redunk unless the stain is so bad and I'm feel ambitious. Usually I'm too lazy and impatient for the rehab to be done! Sometimes the bath or conditioner will bring out stains you couldn't see before. A couple of times things looked worse after conditioning and I redunked. I have one now that has a grease spot that appeared after I used Obenaufs LP. I'm either going to wait to see if it is disappears, or try baking soda or cornstarch on it. Anything to avoid redunking.

Too funny because before I saw your response, I was editing my post to add that I dread re-doing things & am also impatient! Thanks for your response! I used to try to be more of a perfectionist but have come to feel that there's just not enough time for that. ;) I love rehabbing but wonder if I should do it with a bit more gusto. :)

I'd probably have fewer failures if I wasn't so impatient! I'll let things sit for a long time without working on them but then once I decide to work on them, I don't think things out carefully.

There are several on here who throw caution to the wind, even more than me, and have great successes.

Mellopan- Your bag looks wonderful! Great work! Glad to hear Blackrock has helped you too. While it is nice to have original hangtags, I have many bags, vintage & newer, with replacements. It's also fun to take cues from the Poppy line with a variety of colored ones.

Whateve, again, a big thanks from me too!

Here's a photo of my rehabbed vintage large Madison Satchel with a borrowed crossbody strap & showing its age (& that's totally a good thing!). ;)

Looks great! Seeing your photo makes me want that bigger version with the straps :) I'm gonna keep by eye open for one! By the way, have you noticed any color variation between the body of the bag and the straps/piping? On mine the body is a greenish black while the straps/piping is a true black. I can only see it with bright sunlight but it's bothering me :(

Here is my $15 thrifted Willis after her bath and some Lexol and Blackrocks. (Sorry I did not have a chance to do a "before" shot.) The worst thing wrong with her was that she was flattened. I think she cleaned up nice. Of course, she has darkened from the original vivid hunter green (which you can see inside) but I don't think I could get that back except by re-dyeing.

Thanks! I had found that there were two versions. While I was hoping for the crossbody, I like the bag style & would have picked up whichever I saw first. ;)

I have not seen any variation in color on my bag & hadn't noticed any in your photos. I'm not sure what could be the cause. With some variations & imperfections, I try to remind myself that they are part of the bag's life & that vintage appeal. :)

Will be posting another completed rehab shortly....

Your bag looks fabulous!

I finished & am about to post my rehab of a green Patricia's Legacy. Mine looked lighter before the rehab but I was thinking maybe this deeper, richer color is more like what it would have been when new. I don't know though because this is my first green vintage bag. :)

Here's my newly rehabbed vintage green Patricia's Legacy:

I dunked with Dawn dish detergent, stuffed to dry & wiped down with Leather CPR. The leather looks very rich & I am loving the brass hardware / green leather combo. There are some marks on the backside (possibly ink). They're not too noticeable on this dark leather so she's ready to be carried!

Happy weekend, everyone!
