Such beautiful bags! I use Blackrocks on mine. You could also try Obenaufs and put it out in the sun to help it soak in. I don't know if that would help soften it.
Looking at some other posts prompts a silly question. . . is the Bleecker Large Flap a vachetta bag? And if so, did I see you post that vinegar is ok to use on it?
Signed,
"Still trying to figure it out!"

honkers, why use vinegar on it? Just wondering.....I have one coming soon and can't wait. Are you thinking to use vinegar to get certain stains out?

Thanks. I may have to do that on the worst one. I've read that you are limited to 3 replacement parts per year, does anyone know if that is turnlocks and hang tags combined or 3 of each. I've purchased a good number of bags recently on ebay that are missing their hang tags. Also, has anyone had any luck getting hang tags at the outlet stores? There is no FP boutique near me but there is a factory store.
A factory store is the best place to get hangtags! Just don't tell them you got the bags on ebay. If you carry your bag in, they can search for the best match, and they don't keep track of how many they've given you, so you can always get more. If you call Coach, they'll likely just send you a metal one and it will take a long time to get it.

I truly doubt you will be able to get replacement hardware for a Legacy bag. They've recently changed their repair policy so bags older than a year aren't guaranteed. They have the hardware for classic bags available because they still make those bags, but they don't make anything with the same hardware as Legacy.

I don't think it is vachetta. At least mine aren't. They don't have the right texture, I don't think. Maybe the light color is? Anyway, I don't think the creed would read "burnished" if it was vachetta. Since it is burnished, the color isn't really supposed to be even.

I don't think vinegar would hurt any kind of leather.

Alansgail, one of the bags is soft and the leather feels yummy and the other feels a bit stiff. Wondering if something was used on the stiff one. And trying to figure out if I should do anything to it or will it soften over time. Great bags! I am happy to have them! What color did you get?

Thanks, Whateve. Just wondering about the different feel between the bags.

honkers, I got the wine/burgundy color. Am quite excited to see this bag IRL!

Actually this leather is supposed to have a bit of a sheen. I think the softer one might be more worn out.
Also, if one of yours is black, that one wouldn't be burnished so it could be different.

"Vachetta leather is used in the trimmings of luggage and handbags. The leather is left untreated and is therefore susceptible to water and stains. Sunlight makes the natural leather darken in shade (develop a patina)."

I found this definition of vachetta leather online. Vachetta is a "naked" leather that is light which darkens over time from exposure to sunlight, etc.
These bags have color on them so I agree with whateve, they don't appear to be vachetta bags.

Hi Everyone

Just wanted to report back on what turned out to be a rehab success!

I first posted this April 21 #887: - I bought a light yellow (Maize) 1996 Sonoma bag on Ebay. It had few subtle bluish marks that I thought were color transfer. I decided to soak in warm water with ivory snow. Many more grayish-blue marks started appearing everywhere so I immediately took it out of the sink, rinsed well, blotted and let it dry. The marks were still there even after drying, & treating it with Leather Therapy & Blackrock!!!

I opened the lining and looked around with a flashlight, and the color inside is solid Maize, no blue spots. But the bag now looked too dirty to carry! Two Time Bags suggested I put it aside for awhile, which I did.

A month later I decided to soak it in warm water with 2 Tbsp of concentrated Dawn for 2-3 hours.
I soaked it until all but the bottom turned a consistent solid grayish blue; then I gently scrubbed the entire bag.

After drying & treating with Leather Therapy it looked great!! It's a nice Maize color but with a consistent subtle bluish undertone that you can only see in certain light. There are still a few faint spots, and the bottom color isn’t as consistent since I didn’t let it soak long enough.

FYI, I used Blackrock to finish. I think it makes the spots a more noticeable, but felt that I needed to use it to protect the bag. I’m sure only I will notice the spots.

So I now have a bag I can use and enjoy!

Many thanks to everyone on the site for your advice, encouragement and knowledge!

Wow, good for you on a very nicely done rehab! Those light colored bags sure can bring some grief.........!!
Yours looks lovely now...enjoy it.

Ladies, Please help me what to do with the back handles of my Mini Riley. I got it Last July SAS and I baby my bags. Seems the color rubbed off.. I tried applying coach conditioner but nothing happened. The whole bag still looks as new except for the back handles. I'm sure it's not color transfer... I'm so sad:cry:

Speaking of vachetta, I tried Whateve's tip of pure vinegar and a magic eraser, and it worked beautifully (or it would have if I hadn't been a dumdum and scrubbed too hard on the darkest spot).
Sorry, this isn't a Coach. :shame:

Thanks Whateve. I'll head over there one evening after work. The place is a zoo on the weekend.

Thank you!
(FYI, the color is much lighter than my pic)

I do have a question for rehabbers out there :

As I was trying to figure out what was going on with this bag, I found this site that describes the tanning/dyeing process. (I’m sure you all know this already, but was new info for me:)
http://www.saddlebackleather.com/craftsmanship/chpt4

It talks about the “Wet Blue” Leather before tanning & says that if they cut corners & leather isn’t dyed completely, the leather ends up with that blue layer sandwiched between front and back color, and is considered cheaper leather.

I’m assuming that’s what is going on with my Coach bag. (BTW I did have it authenticated on the Forum.)

- Has anyone ever had this happen (turn blue) while washing a lighter colored Coach bag?
Or have you had blue show through due to color loss? Is this unusual?

I’m starting to collect Sonomas, but am thinking twice about buying another light colored bag….

Thanks in advance for any insights!
