Ledobe is the queen of suede rehab. She almost always throws them in the machine. I think two.time.bags also does a great job using baking soda.

Sometimes my crown gets in the way when I'm scrubbing though!

LOL, I thought maybe you were being too hard on yourself. :)
I found ledobe's rehab of the eyelet duffle - she did a fantastic job on it. Here's the first post - it's in the rehab thread that's closed:

This is what gave me the courage to tackle suede. :p

Thanks, Beccabaglady. I think the bag photographed very well. . . doesn't show the dinginess. I have brushed it but will give it another once over.

So suede isn't as fragile as it is made out to be, however, it is likely to fade, especially if it's a dark bag. I scrub suede like I would scrub a pair of jeans, and I usually use some sort of stain remover like Shout on the bad spots, preferably sprayed on. With that dark colored bag that you are working on I would be very careful about scrubbing any one area too much or you'll end up with lighter spots. And yes I do almost always wash them in the machine with a bunch of towels. One of the reasons I put bags in the washer is I think it does a much better job of rinsing the soap out. Soap makes them look dingy too, and more likely to grab dirt!

It actually looks great in the picture, and unless it looks a lot worse in real life maybe you're being over critical? It's hard to get them perfect. That blue bag had a bit of dinginess to it also but it doesn't show in the picture.

I'm really rough on them when I wash them but I don't like using wire suede brushes on them, I usually just use a clean washcloth to brush the nap.

Don't squirt Soilove directly on suede. I did it and it bleached it.

Agree-I had problems with Soilove on something-maybe it was clothing-I don't think it was a bag. My ideal is to use aerosol Shout which I have never noticed caused fading and I'm pretty sure I used it on the blue bag, but I if I don't have it around I make do.

Zealous, Beccabaglady, Whateve, thanks for all the great feedback!
Ledobe, you certainly deserve a crown for your results and a medal for your bravery!! I had seen the grommet bag rehab in my searches but not the light blue one. Perhaps I am being a bit overcritical but sense that there is more I can do to that bag. I will try Shout and give the bag another wash in the machine with two rinses! And I will let you know how it turns out.

You are all terrific support to a new and timid rehabber!

I used to sew. I haven't for a long time. (I have tons of fabric that I've never used.) I have a rotary cutter but I don't know how old the blades are. I didn't try it when I cut the leather I used. I used an exacto knife.

I wasn't sure if it would work so I just cut a little off the end at first. It was very easy. I was going to suggest just buy new blades, but on Joann's website they're surprisingly expensive.

Hi, I've bought a number of the vachetta Legacy bags on ebay over the past month and am slowing cleaning them up. Is there a way to clean the brass turnlocks and other hardware? I know it's darkened to look antique but some of mine is badly scratched and otherwise looks dirty, not antique. Hoping there is a product or technique that will brighten but not strip the antiqued finish. Thanks!

Don't attempt to polish them. I think the brass plating is pretty thin. I don't think you can do anything about the scratches. I think vinegar is the way to go. It is great for cleaning vachetta too so you won't have to worry about keeping it off the leather.

I just received some replacement hardware from Coach (free of charge) for the regular brass hardware. Wonder if they do the same for the 'antiqued' hardware.
It might be worth it to go onto their site and ask them if they can send you replacement hardware.

Thanks. I've had good results with vinegar on other brass parts. I also googled and it recommended lemon oil for antique brass finish. I'll report the results.

Thanks. I may have to do that on the worst one. I've read that you are limited to 3 replacement parts per year, does anyone know if that is turnlocks and hang tags combined or 3 of each. I've purchased a good number of bags recently on ebay that are missing their hang tags. Also, has anyone had any luck getting hang tags at the outlet stores? There is no FP boutique near me but there is a factory store.
