Leather Honey fans: I just applied it for the first time to my two Ramblers. They're darker now, which I expected, but I'm wondering how long it might take for them to lighten back up?

Thanks!
It could take awhile. I usually only use Leather Honey for super dry leather or when I want darkening. By Ramblers, you mean Rambler's Legacy, not the original Rambler, right? What color are your Ramblers?

I've had a little problem with Leather Honey. In one case, the bag looked worse and I had to give it another bath. It looked like I had actually spilled honey on it. It was streaky and uneven. I think I waited 2 weeks before I decided it wasn't going to get any better.

The original Ramblers. They look much more even today and feel amazing. The BT one had CPR first before I ordered the Honey so I probably will use Obenaufs on that next, and one more layer of Honey on the Mahogany. They were super dry after their bath.

ETA: Huh. The picture wasn't sideways when I posted it...

I like leather honey but I'm not sure I'd buy it again for this reason. I think because it's difficult to spread you can end up with dark spots, though it's seldom happened permanently for me. I just used it on a turquoise ergo tote and thought for sure it was still going to be spotty but it was OK the next morning, in fact it really helped even out the dry spots so it looks better. I think maybe a conditioning with leather CPR and then Blackrocks has more or less the same results and is easier to work with.

I might change my mind on this though, it's been known to happen.

I love this bag. I have on in Navy and I know I would carry it all the time if it was in a different color, darn it! Yours are pretty!

Normally I just use CPR and Blackrocks, but these babies were DRY. I gave the BT one 3 coats before it was even a little moist, so I figured it was time to try something more intense. I also have Obenaufs which I've never used but may try on the BT one tonight. The other one needs one more of Leather Honey, I think, but still a big improvement.

Thanks! The BT one is waiting for a new turnlock and some serious piping repair. It won't be perfect, but usable at least. The brown (is that mahogany?) only has a couple little piping splits. I'd love a navy one too!

Hi!
Have some questions about rehab on this double kisslock. Was the brass plated in this era? Can it be restored? The grommets that hold the strap are very worn, the kisslocks still not too bad and the brass feet are slightly worn. The leather is very nice, no ink, stains or noticable scuffing. The sides are out of shape. Should I dunk it? Inside is nice but the bag is dusty. No smells other than slight perfume. This is the oldest bag I have bought and don't want to do any harm.
Thanks

If you over polish the brass you'll likely end up with silver. If you're really careful you might be OK but be aware it's a very thin coating, mine came off pretty easily so I'm not sure I'd recommend it.

I have gently dunked both of mine, and it helped reshape and freshen it, it was totally NOT a big deal and one of mine is the orangy red with the lining. The water got orangy but the bag itself showed no sign of wear and the striped lining didn't pick anything up. The other was white with leather lining and it came through fine also.

Hope this helps!

Wow, those are gorgeous! I'd still use Leather Honey when a bag needed serious moisture. I can't get any conditioner on my skin so I have to wear gloves with most of them. I like that I can use a paint brush for Leather Honey.

I know some people swear by Leather Therapy but I don't see why. I thought it might be because my free sample was the motorcycle one so I bought the regular one and it seems to be the same. I've also used mink oil on very dry bags. Amazon had it as an add-on for under $5 but I think they raised the price since I bought it.

Thanks! It's a lesson in patience going through all the steps but I think it will be worth it.

Thanks. Anyone ever have the metal re-plated?

I think I have met my rehab match! I got a croc embossed Maggie Mia for $9 on the goodwill online shop and it looked dirty and abused but I was curious to give it a go.

The handles a so worn and thin I think it's just a lost cause..... Any ideas? The body was dirty but not in bad shape.

If it needs any gluing, I would use leather cement. Then I would use Leather Refinisher on it. You should smooth it out and sand or cut off the hanging bits first.

By "Leather Refinisher" do you mean "LVP Refinisher" by a company called Colorbond - a spray coating? I've been trying to learn more about this product on this thread and am a bit confused. Googling and checking Ebay and this is all I get. I'd like to know how you use it and if its for only a certain type of leather and not others (in handbags, of course).

Also, I just got my first tub of Blackrock and it looks kind of old - inside is like ochre colored goop, almost liquid-like gel oil, while the description says it is supposed to be colorless? Also, there are 2 versions, of the label, one with the Native American and another with a white man - mine was the first version and I'm wondering if the this has gone bad. Should I get a fresher one?

Thanks as always in advance :smile1:

By Leather Refinisher, I mean this stuff: http://www.wood-n-stuff.com/leatheraid.html
It is pretty easy to use. You just paint it on. If you get a good color match, you only need to do the parts that are worn. If you are just doing the handles, you can a sample size, which should be enough for it.

Blackrocks has never been clear, as far as I know. Mine is ochre colored. I think they changed it a little a year or two ago. I think the newer stuff is runnier. Mine has a the Indian chief on it. I haven't kept mine around for a long time but I don't think it can go bad. If it could go bad, then it seems there would be a chance it could go bad while it was on a purse.

I too wondered what Leather Refinisher was. In my eyes her handles needed more then color, - and my thought was it needed some smoothing of the leather, maybe some coating?

My Blackrocks, ordered from Amazon a couple weeks ago, is like yours Whatever, Indian head and same color. I have used it on several bags, and it didn't change the color ( just brightened the color.) even bags I thought didn't need it, it enhanced the leather and color! I did use it on a light colored handle on a wristlet, and it did give it a slight yellowish tint though.
