The original Ramblers. They look much more even today and feel amazing. The BT one had CPR first before I ordered the Honey so I probably will use Obenaufs on that next, and one more layer of Honey on the Mahogany. They were super dry after their bath.

ETA: Huh. The picture wasn't sideways when I posted it...
Do the Ramblers come in different sizes? The ones I see on eBay look so much smaller than the ones you're showing.

Well I may be calling on your expertise soon Flush! I just bought a BT Rambler and can't wait to get it......I've asked the seller if she did any sort of conditioning or cleaning of the bag but haven't heard back yet.

Well, just heard back and the good news is that she hasn't done anything at all to the bag because she said it looks to be in great shape! Yay! There are a few tiny spots that she said may come off after cleaning but other than that it's looking good.
So happy.

Good, because I sure wouldn't call myself any kind of expert, especially compared to some other people on this board! :D

Lol, you did a pretty darn good job on those two Ramblers you have! Granted mine doesn't have breaks, etc.
I've dunked bags before but am so looking forward to this bag!
There's just something I love about those older Ramblers....such a classic.

Does anyone here have any experience rehabbing a bone/cream/ivory colored vintage bag? I recently got a bone (or cream or ivory, I'm not sure which the official color would be) convertible clutch that is in good condition, but somewhat dirty. I gave it a bath and some coats of Cadillac and Apple, but it's still a bit on the dingy side. I can tell because the hang tag and the panels beneath the front flap are still a few shades lighter than the flap and strap. I know borax has been suggested here before, so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or tips on de-dingyfying (my new word) a lighter colored leather.

Also, while overall the bag is in good condition, the edges have a kind of yellowish tinge which I'm not sure if it is grime or just rub wear. I'd be much obliged for any suggestions!
I have the same issue with a cute little bone envelope bag I picked up at a local thrift. I bathed it and used several coats of CPR but it still looks dingy.
Is Meltonian a no-no? I was thinking of doing a light once-over with that.
Also, I tried using acrylic paint mixed with CPR on the worn and dirty piping spots, but I wasn't happy with the result. It looked too much like it was "painted."
Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

If it looked painted, you used too much paint. Some people use Meltonian. A cobbler told me it would rub off on your clothes. You could try Leather Refinisher. http://www.wood-n-stuff.com/leatheraid.html You could buy a one ounce sample size.

Hey strangers! Just here for a quick hit & run - life has been crazy here and no time to play on tpf, but thought I should share a smoke success story. :( About a year ago bought a gorgeous Sven Design sling bag at GW for 4.97. Absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke. I threw it in a plastic grocery bag and stuffed it in a bin. Decided last week that it was time to tackle it. Pulled it out, still reeked of smoke and it was covered in spew. Figured I had nothing to lose, so I threw it in a tub with some Dawn and let it soak for a couple of hours. Rinsed it out, then threw it back in the tub with a mixture of water & white vinegar and let it soak for about 3 hours. Took it out, stuffed it and let it sit overnight, then it went out on the deck in the sun for about 4 hours. No smoke smell!!!

Hope to get back on next weekend and catch up - school will finally be out!
