What I do for gathered and pleated bags is run water over them in the shower (the sink sprayer takes up a hand on my sink) just enough to clean out the cracks (I once had one with sand and dog hair in the cracks; eww) and dry them off quickly. Then I turn the lining inside out and wash it outside of the bag. I'm afraid to dunk them and let them sit in water.
oh, that's a good idea! yeah, the full soaking makes me nervous for the pleated bag, but i really like the idea of washing the whole thing when it comes to a second hand bag. everyone always has great suggestions.

9791 British Tan Day Pack. My first 'order' from a FB 'client'. I had a tight timeframe so had to find one quickly. A kind tpfer spotted one for me on Etsy and I grabbed it. Unfortunately there were some undisclosed issues like extra holes and a cut in the straps and the original drawstring and keeper were missing. The seller came good and refunded me 35%. Lots of before and after photos to follow. Sorry, on the ipad so can only upload one at a time.

I was thinking of at the very least trimming it up since it just looks bad to have a fuzzy strap. I've got the smaller one, and its about 9 inches across. I want to say it might even be flannel grey? It's got the NYC creed on it, and it's a darker grey than my newer grey rambler.

Good to know! I think I'll trim it to get the big stuff off, then maybe sand it a little to try and get all the little bits off. I was looking online at a bunch of the saddle pouches, and it looks like it might just be some light coating to help keep the leather from fraying.

Late to the discussion here but I use Meltonian on the strap edges after removing as much of the fuzzy stuff as I can. Need to let it sit for a few days to dry then rub with a paper towel to remove the excess.
