Rehab of my black leather Coach Sidepack K6C-9978 (Made in the US) (Good condition with some scuffing & color loss on front piping.).

I applied:
• Obenauf's Leather Oil to moisturize & cover small scratches
• a mixture of a couple drops of black acrylic craft paint added to a teaspoon of a leather lotion, dabbed & blended onto piping where faded
• Blackrock Leather 'N' Rich on the piping to add a bit of sheen back

This was my first attempt using these steps. I am pleased with how this turned out. :)

***Thanks, Rehabbers, for sharing your techniques, advice & inspiration! You all are awesome!***

P.S.- Am I doing things out of order? Should I be finishing with the Obenauf's?

I won this little NYC gem but it has piping issues. For the price, thought I would give it a try. Is this the correct order: bathe, condition, glue, fill, paint? P.s. I hope it is burgundy and not brown.

When I did my satchel piping repairs, I bathed it, then one coat of CPR, then glue/filled the split, then mixed more CPR with paint, then Blackrocks. It seemed to work pretty well.

great job! I've never used Obenaufs oil, only the LP. I think you used them in the right order. I always use Blackrocks as my final step.

Fabulous! Looks like you picked just the right bag for your first rehab :smile1:

I went ahead and rehabbed the Gigi I found last week. I'm quite proud of myself because holy cow was that bag gross!! It had ink marks and wear in the lining, and dust bunnies had taken up residence in the corner seams. I used a toothbrush and shout advanced to scrub out the majority of the ink and some dish detergent on the more stubborn spots. It's probably the biggest bag I've rehabbed since it took 3 full sized towels and 2 washcloths to reshape it. I also tightened up the screw on the turnlock so it doesn't flop around. (I've already requested a new turnlock just for the extra screw, but this just bought me some time in case they send the wrong thing again.) I also used some leather therapy and put a little extra on the corners since they were looking a little worn.

I love this bag. It seems to be a great size. Is it heavy?

Will you do me a favor and let us know if they send the correct turnlock? I may have need of one I the future.

Tour bag came out beautifully! Congrats.

Thank you! Yes, a small bag in its condition was very manageable for my first rehab. :)

Great work on your recent rehab!
Thanks! It was nice to have an easy rehab where there wasn't anything super intense to do and I didn't feel pressured to get it totally perfect for resale.

Oddly, it really isn't heavy. The hardware doesn't really add much weight and the leather is heavy for the newer bags but still pretty light!

Definitely! I only say send the wrong thing because earlier this year I asked for a turnlock and they sent me D-rings like on the dowel for a Willis and that counted towards my allotment of 3 pieces of hardware apparently. So when I asked for the correct piece of hardware, that took care of 2 of my 3. Then I needed 2 turnlocks so who knows if they'll send the big one with screws or the little pronged one.

Update: Definitely got the smaller, 4 pronged turnlock and not the big one for the Gigi. Looks like I'll have to enlist my husband's help to find the screw I need.

You did a great job and in the right order. I've never used Obenauf's oil, but the LP solid stuff tends to dull the shine so it''s always good to finish with Black Rock.

What's next? :graucho:

Thank you!

Aaaand... I do have a cute red Murphy Willis 9930 that is waiting to be rehabbed. It's also in good condition with just a bit of color loss on the front corners. Any advice for rehabbing a red bag? I'm mostly afraid of darkening/changing the color.

ChevaliereNoir & Whateve: I saw your recent pretty red rehabs. Any advice? Thanks!
