Wondering what could be used on Coach Legacy F12868 to moisturize the leather looking to buy one but it doesn't come with the care card so any help would be greatly appreciated. I live in Canada if that makes any difference
I believe that bag is made of vachetta (I was looking at that style recently myself) which is very finicky as its basically untreated leather. Cleaning it is a very slow process because you can't give it baths like a lot of the vintage bags we discuss here on the board normally. You can wipe it down with alcohol, dye and fragrance free baby wipes. I'd wait for others to chime in too, but don't expect a quick and easy cleaning for it. The perk of that kind of leather though is over time it becomes a lovely honey shade of tan just from being handled.

Finished a few today.

Red Basic Bag and red Carnival Bag. The Court Bag is actually dark green. All were in good condition to start with. Just needed dunking re-shaping and conditioning.

I don't know if that one is vachetta. It is a factory bag so I don't think it has the same leather as Legacy. The creed says burnished - the Legacy vachetta bags don't have that wording. I rehabbed a Legacy wristlet. I used Leather Honey, which was great for deepening the color. It depends on how dry the leather is and what color it is. You could use Cadillac, Obenaufs LP or Blackrocks, or all three.

The creed says individually burnished cowhide. I am looking at it in black

She doesn't know what it is. She said she hasn't used it in 2 years. No idea how she didn't see it when she was taking photos for the auction. What do you pros think - should I risk it? $100 is a big risk.

I don't have to go through with the sale. She's offered me 10 percent off.

If I remember from the authenticate thread this is a velvet bag, or is it suede? What did you decide to do? I won't post my opinion unless you are still undecided-- don't want you to doubt your choice if you have made one!

So I ended up getting a return that crescent bag before the seller shipped it. I've got a new turnlock coming for it, but oh well! Never hurts to have one on hand :smile1:
I think that was a good choose-- there are other crescent bags out there. Did Coach send you the turn lock and was there a charge? I need one for an old City Bag. I keep thinking I'll find a really sad bag at a thrift store that is beyond repair and really cheap that will have a turn lock I can use, but no luck yet. BTW what do you think of this snow again today :noggin:

Does anyone have experience with neatsfoot oil and specifically how long it takes for the smell to fade?
I use the Lexol NF conditioning oil on many of my older bags but the small print on the back says there is actually very little-- or maybe none-- actual neatsfoot oil in it, mostly mineral oils. Anyway it has almost no odor. I know this doesn't help but I wonder what they used-- maybe some very old oil or maybe some motor oil that was on the shelf next to the neatsfoot oil....

I recently sold one of these in the Berry color. I'm trying to remember, I think it was in good condition to begin with so I didn't risk dunking it. I used Leather CPR and mixed Meltonian creams to match the color and touch up the corners. It's a very pretty bag but you need to always hang it because set down on a surface it tends to want to tip front down because of the weight of the front pockets.

She did describe it as velvet but in other places I saw it listed as suede. And yes, still undecided! I had asked her if it was reversible, but hadn't heard back. Then Whateve posted that it's not. Anyway, haven't given her an answer yet, so more opinions welcome!

I didn't really know too much about the properties of neatsfoot oil until I started doing research after I received the bag. Apparently the seller used Fieblings 100% neatsfoot oil and there's mixed reviews on it. Some people say recent batches have had a very petroleum or oil smell to it and some people mention no smell at all.

I broke down and dumped it in a hot soapy bath inkspots and all (which thankfully didn't bleed) and she's drying now. Good news is it already smells much, much better. :smile1:

I just went back and looked again at the original listing and that sure is a pretty bag. I haven't had great luck cleaning suede but that bag looks to be in really good clean condition except for the strap. I think I would probably go for it with the 10% discount. You can try to clean the strap without getting the rest of the bag involved. Depending on what it is when you get it (maybe stiff and sticky and likely water based, or less desirable just dark and soaked in oil based) I would spot treat it with the hopes of minimizing without expecting to eliminate. And ultimately the location of the spots are such that they are behind you when you carry it so you won't be staring at them all the time.

That is pretty much what I was thinking as well. It is a big chunk of change but I haven't seen these come around often. I was thinking of asking for 20%, since there were only 2 bids the first time and that was without any photos of the strap. Thanks for your input!

Ha ha! I had actually written that 20% would be better but then deleted it from my post! At 20% discount I would feel really good (if I was you) and that I could live with the results whatever they were.
