Not really. I've tried polishing hardware on Legacy bags and it makes it look worse. The brass is just plating so any polishing could remove more of the plating. There are places where you can the brass replated. That would require removing the hardware. You might be able to find a new turnlock to replace it cheaper. There are screws on the back to remove it, rather than the tabs of the classic turnlocks. I've never removed them. I just noticed the protective plastic is still on the hardware on my Bridgit!

Personally I wouldn't let this bother me.

Good to know - thanks!

Here are some pics of the worst parts. It needs a general cleaning. There is dirt all over. I got it cheap enough I'm not very scared to try something. The suede seems thick enough for a gentle dunking. A couple years ago I threw a slim suede hobo in the washing machine, with g rest results, but it was light blue and handwashing didnt help at all. I hesitate to trust the washer with this one because of all the stitching and the rich color. I might try water and a nail brush. The lining is burgundy, so I'm not too worried about bleeding. I agree about the Kiwi suede cleaner-it made stains on my burgundy suede soho bag. Help?
ooh, I've been tempted to get this bag many times. A local store had the wallet for $25; the bag had already sold. Now I wish I had at least gotten the wallet.

It looks like at least part of the dirt is color transfer. I think it is going to take heavy treatment to get it clean. I would pretreat all the spots, put it in a pillowcase, and wash it in a washer full of towels for cushioning. If you use cold water, it shouldn't fade much. I think the stitching will survive.

I've never used the oil, just the Heavy Duty stuff. If it feels and looks OK now you probably don't need any more.

What a transformation. She must have very dry. Great job!

Another great job. I love that colour too.

Post a pic and someone may be able to advise. A number of us have had both positive and negative experiences with suede.

I've never had this problem. Do you buff before applying? Obenauf's can be foggy if it's not buffed well. Also, if the leather is still damp when it's applied. Or maybe the ambient temperature is too cold?
That might be it--I'm not buffing before applying Blackrocks, and it's been in the 20s here for most of the last couple weeks. (And probably about 68 in my craft/rehab room. I managed to pick the warmest room in the house to work!)

Wow, that looks brand new!

Thank you, not quite new, but much better.

One more happy ending before I head off for a few days.

I finally got up the nerve to tackle the Peyton flap I got with a big stain on the bottom. I have no idea what the stain was but I was pretty sure it wasn't going anywhere. Low and behold, I hit it with a cuticle brush dripping with Dawn Powerwash ("like an overnight soak in just 3 minutes!" or something like that on the bottle) and then into a very warm bath and I was practically dancing when I took it out. Used Soilove on a couple of marks on the lining and then stuffed her to dry so she'd plump up again. After she was dry I used a peach colored permanent marker to cover many of the little scuffs and around the corners where the finish had worn off and the lighter leather was showing through. She's not perfect but I'm not complaining!

Before and after:

Amazing job, what a beautiful color bag, congrats!

Thank you! It was dry but not actually dirty, no stains whatsoever. I remember what you ladies taught me of Leather Therapy darkening some, and instead of Blackrocks is what I used, I was really happy with the results.

I need to use this momentum and finally tackle my (small) Sonoma collection. None are in need of rehabbing, just some TLC.

I am not sure if I need to give them baths, not having stains just showing more dirt/wear on the corners, do I use vinegar and nothing else?

If I dunk the pebble one, would the lining bleed? I would love to get advice I know some of you have done miracles with nubuc and pebbled leather. ;)

I've dunked several Sonomas. The nubuc doesn't seem to improve from a bath. Actually the natural grain doesn't either! I washed a lime natural grain in the washer. The lining bled a little on the bag, but during the drying process. I have since learned to pull the lining completely out and keep it from touching the leather until it dries. If your bags don't need reshaping, a bath might not be necessary. You can pull out the lining to wash.

I've had trouble with those worn spots on nubuc. You would think a stiff brushing or sanding or steel wool would fix the nap on those worn smooth edges, but it didn't work for me.

I think someone used baking soda to clean nubuc. I should try that.

Thank you for your input. Only the Flap Bag needs reshaping, so I guess I am in luck as it is the darkest. I will dunk only that one.

I have a question - my Hampton carryall has some kind of spot on the side. It almost looks like a water spot but I'm not certain. I don't 'baby' my bags per se, so it could be something else. Any thoughts on cleaning it? The leather on this bag is a lighter color (British tan) than my other bag and I'm nervous about ruining it. I've previously used Leather CPR on this bag without any issues.

Leather CPR is also sort of a cleaner. Have you tried using that to see if it helps?

I just noticed that the mink oil I bought for 1/3 the price at the same time as Obenauf's LP smells almost the same as Obenaufs.

I am trying Cadillac Boot and Shoe Care now and I think I really like it. It seems really thin when you put it on, but the leather is definitely softer afterwards, significantly more than with CPR. I think it reduces shininess too.

So I just won this bag last night. The seller just messaged me and said she just noticed the handle has stains. She sent me this photo. I'm waiting to hear if she knows what it is. Any idea of the chances I can clean it up? p.S. This photo may be really small - can't tell how it will actually post.

ETA - really small! Will try to make it bigger!

I took a pic of it bigger on my laptop with the iPad. Best I could do.
