So forgive me if I've asked this before (I feel like I may have when I had another Dooney that was lined but didn't actually need that much work.) I bought a AWL unlined Dooney yesterday that's in decent shape, but naturally could use some cleaning. Can I just treat it like any other unlined Coach and dunk, reshape and condition?

I haven't dunked one but that's what I would do. I'd make it a quick dunk just to reshape. The smooth leather will respond better to the conditioning than the pebbled, but Black Rock will give it a glow.

i'm trying to remember if it's okay to wash a pebbled leather bag? i know there has been talk of how conditioners can settle into the nooks and crannies leaving white residue, but would a thin coat of CPR be okay?

like many of you, i prefer the thought of a dunked bag but if it will destroy it, i wont.

and can the handle be CPR'd too?

thanks!

It's okay to dunk a pebbled bag. You do have to be careful about using thicker conditioners. Is this the one with purple lining? I'd pull out the lining when it's drying and try to keep the leather from touching it until it is dry.

it has a turquoise lining. thanks for the reminder about pulling it out, and for assuring me i can dunk it. yay for my first dunk!

It was something like that. There was a name to it but I can't remember what it was.

I've been told that neetsfoot oil darkens permanently. Blackrocks and Leather Honey darken but I think it is temporary.

I've found Leather Therapy, Obenauf's and Black Rock can darken a really dry bag but I think they actually restore the colour to what is was originally. Here's a before and after example.

Thank you both, I wrote it down on my notes.

In case that the moderators read this thread....

I apologize for suggesting the trading of hang tags, I found out the part of the rules where is says is not allowed, so it won't happen again.

Today I went on a little shopping trip, ending up at an outlet where extremely helpful SA replaced the tag I was looking for (a bag from 2001), she brought me three different brown tags to match the bag, and I found the exact one that was lost. :smile1:

After being so nice, and considering that they had the 50% off on all items, and 40% on top of that for the ones in clearance, I bought three little things that I didn't need, but I couldn't pass on, LOL. Oh! I also bought some Leather cleaner for $5.00 (see... I didn't get of the subject of this thread). ;)

WOW! Two Time, you are a miracle worker!!!! No joke!

Is that bottom little ugly bag (before shot - certainly not ugly in the after shot) something I might have seen before?
Thanks JaNan. Not miracles just good advice from this thread, good products and lots of elbow grease.

I think you're referring to a Zippered Pouch that was discovered in an old trunk?

I have washed some Dooney AWL bags I bought used as they were dirty. I tried multiple coats of CPR on a dried up dark green Essex and it helped. Once I used mink oil on a black AWL bag and didnt get good results as the creases turned white.

Well, here is my to me very vintage coach.

Before:

Hope these pics are ok. What do you think the white spots might be? Anyway, she is now dunked and stuffed, will be conditioned in a few hours!
