You know, i think I've used them all at various times. Am actually pleased with this, as the bag was so dry. Have added blackrocks since that last pic was taken, and am buffing with sheepskin. Expect to have to buff at least 3-4 times.

But no more white spots!! Now, i have to dare to carry her! Or maybe i should just hang her on a wall to be admired!!

Do any of you use your very vintage/rare bags? ( this is only the 2nd one I've seen on the bay since last nov.)

But am sure I've missed some!
I don't have this one. It's a cute style. I would carry it.

I've never carried my Bonnie Cashins, mostly because they aren't usable sizes. I don't carry my NYC basic bag that is in new condition (I want to keep it that way.) I do carry my pre-creed suede watermelon tote, and I've never seen another one. I also carry my stroll tote, which isn't super old but the color combination doesn't come up very often.

I bought Meguiars when I first started rehabbing. Since then, I've found conditioners that work better on Coach leather. I try to avoid combination cleaner/conditioners.

Thanks whateve...maybe i will carry her.

(Yet) another question..-a bottomless pit here--why do you avoid dual action products?

And, given that coach leather over the years has varied greatly, which product do you prefer?

Actually most products claim to be both a cleaner and conditioner. We wash the bags so the cleaning capability isn't important to us. I feel like most of these products are designed for ease of use over effectiveness. The cleaner portion is designed to bring dirt to the surface so it can be wiped away. If it is doing that, I can't see how it can also be deeply moisturizing. Meguiars is made primarily for auto upholstery, not purses. The leather in autos is very thin and doesn't need a product that will soak in deeply. Coach's glove tanned leather is thick and needs a effective moisturizer that the leather will absorb, even more so because we've removed moisture when we bathe it.

I use different products for different bags based on their condition. I always use Blackrocks as the final step. For a new bag I've bought, I might use only Blackrocks as a protective coating. For a rehab, I'll use Leather CPR for a bag where the leather is already fairly healthy and supple. Although the label claims it is also a cleaner, I can see the conditioner soak in and plump up the leather. For dried out leather, I'll use mink oil or Leather Honey, which are deep moisturizers. I've just started using Obenauf's. It seems to soften the leather and waterproof. I've used Skidmore's which also softens.

I really like that style an have been tempted to bid on a few in the past. I have a glass cabinet which is where I display my vintage 'collection'. I'm fast running out of space though. I need another. Like whateve I find most of my vintage bags to be too small to be practical for me so I would never use my small kiss locks bags. I do use my Basic Bag and pre-creed Watermelon Tote. I recently won a double sided satchel which is a great size and I can't wait to rehab it so I can use it!

I finished my Shoulder Sac today. When I got her I was nearly knocked out by the stench of cigarette smoke odour, so it took about 3 weeks of airing outside and half a bottle of Febreeze. The smell finally went and I dunked her. I still need to resew a couple of loose stitches but other that that she's done.

I am blown away by the colour. It's been really hot here so I took advantage of that and after two coats of Leather Therapy I applied a coat of Obenauf's and left her in the sun. Buffing then more Obenauf's. The suede and the inside pocket suggest that she was British Tan. She is a now a rich deep colour than looks like a cross between burgundy and mahogany.

Here are before and after pics. The third pic shows the inside pocket against the outside leather. She looks like she has a sun tan!

Makes sense whateve!

Have now accumulated 10 or so different kinds of conditioners. Feel like the sorcerer's apprentice. And have a new one on order. Or maybe i need a magic wand...

Oh my TTB....what a beauty! She is gorgeous!

Wow, so gorgeous! My black one seems so boring. I'm kicking myself because I didn't bid on what I thought might have been a shoulder sac in red. The pictures were so bad. I could have gotten it for $20 + shipping. She relisted it and someone did a BIN for $40 + shipping.

Thanks ladies. I got her for a good price and she came with a wallet cheque book too. All up with shipping was around $50. Dealing with the smoke odour was worth it.

I think I saw that red one, whateve, and I wasn't sure what it was either because the pics were so bad.

Wow---that color is absolutely stunning!

Some genius punched holes in this Willis bag strap. From goodwill online so no mention was made of this fact. I tried enzyme cleaner, acetone, vinegar and baking soda on the dark spots on the backside of the strap. They lightened up from black to brown. Resorted to acrylic paint thinned with conditioner. One more coat should make for a perfect match.

How well would a leather hole filler work to partially refill and smooth out the holes? Would it hold up during use?

Wow, why did they have to punch so many holes?! Someone punched an extra hole in my Willis strap too. I filled it with acrylic caulking. It never completely filled it. If I were to do it again, I would use leather cement.

If you want to use the holes, I would have them professionally punched out. At least then they'd be round and clean. I did this with another strap that someone had made their own holes in. It didn't cost very much.
