You can pull the lining out and wash it with dishwashing soap and water. Rinse completely. If it isn't very dirty you can use a mild spray cleaner that doesn't need rinsing. If the leather has a bit of a sheen on it like my cornflower Hailey, I think it is a bit water resistant so it should be fine if it gets a little wet. I wouldn't dunk it though, not because water would damage it but because I don't think the finish can take much abuse without showing wear. I've never conditioned my Hailey. I've seen some with worn corners so some Blackrocks or Obenaufs would probably give it an extra layer of protection.

Thank You, Whateve! I know I can always count on you. I have Cadillac and Leather CPR at home. Planning to purchase either Blackrock or Obenaufs. I own mostly Madison bags, only saddle bag and mini studded Preston are not Madisons. All the Madisons I've owned have had corner wear after few weeks of carrying them even though I always condition them first.

Should I condition Madisons at all? Would Blackrock be too much for Madison? Thanks

You're welcome! I rarely condition my newer bags. My Madisons have all held up well. My embossed Wisteria Sophia has wrinkled more than I'd like so it kind of spoils the look of the embossing and the edgekote came off my chevron Sophia when I carried it for a month straight this summer but everything else looks good. My daughter took one of my Isabelles so I'm a little worried about that one.

I don't think Blackrocks would be too much. I've heard great things about Cadillac. It might be all you need. I use CPR when the leather is dry, I use Blackrocks more for protection and camouflage of scratches. I've just started using Obenaufs so other than waterproofing, I'm not sure what else it does.

I used Blackrocks on my sunflower Legacy duffle both because of the known corner wear problem and that I was worried about color transfer. I put Obenaufs on my colorblock archival Rambler as I was hoping it would reduce the shininess.

My Isabelle (Magenta) showed corner wear after about 10 uses but maybe it was because I conditioned it while it was new. Probably should've left it alone. I tend to over condition my bags.

Cadillac worked wonders on rehabbed vintage City Bag. After soaking, washing and drying it, I conditioned with Cadillac only twice and bag looked like new.

Update on my first rehab, looking better after redunking. No more marks and no over stuffed. Now is getting the Leather CPR treatment and I am sure it will look beautiful.

As you are having a conversation about newer bags... I have an Avery drawstring, and the canvas is showing a bit dirty on the corners, also I found a small spot that I do not know what kind of stain it is.
What would you recommend to clean this material? The Coach fabric cleaner or some detergent and water? TIA :smile1:

I would use the detergent and water first, then go from there.

About pen marks I want to share that I have been able to make them look less prominent using one kind of eraser, this eraser also worked with some dark marks/stains from vachetta and regular leather. I am not saying they are totally gone, but after the conditioner and buffing, looked much, much improved.
For the pen marks, I cut the eraser in an angle so I can use it exactly on the mark and not much around it, you don't want to take the color off, go little by little with not too much pressure and judge by yourself when to stop.

I would love your advice about this bag I just got authenticated, it is my oldest Coach and I want to "help it", keeping its character.

Do you recommend any different way to proceed due to the kind of leather and age? Do I use the same method of bath, conditioning with Leather CPR and Blackrocks, brass polish, etc...?
It looks pretty solid, no worn out corners or strap, no ink....just some tiny holes (I tried to show in the picture) I have no clue from what. I will appreciate your input and thank you!

that back looks great and I would do exactly what you said above ^^^ wash, condition, blackrocks.

It will just enhance and soften the leather, I think you'll be thrilled with the results!

I just purchased Madison Hailey off Ebay. I usually don't buy secondhand but couldn't resist this one.
It's overall in great condition but I would still like to clean it inside and out as it has been used by somebody else... I could use leather cleaner and conditiioner outside but how to wash inside?

It's Mahogany leather and light sateen inside. I have rehabbed only one vintage legacy city bag and turned out great but it didn't have lining and was much thicker, stronger leather?

Thank You ladies in advance!

I just received a Rose Gold Phoebe from eBay with a fully disclosed spill in the lining. I actually pulled out the lining as much as possible (it's sewn down at the bottom) and was going to start by wiping it with a really damp/wet cloth and see what came up. Turns out whatever it was was sudsy so I took a chance and wrapped the leather with a towel as much as possible and rinsed the lining with the sprayer on my kitchen sink. I tried not to splash the leather at all but I know it got a couple spots on it. I kept it all wrapped up while it was drying because I felt like moving the towel would risk getting water on the leather from the lining, I just sort of blindly wiped off the leather with a dry towel and then wiped the lining with a dry towel to get as much as the water off as possible.

I know the leather got some water on it, but there are no spots now. The liner dried super fast and rinsing it got all the soap out so it's spotless. Not saying I would go this far with your bag but it's probably not the end of the world if however you approach madison leather it gets a little wet.

Thank you for your input, I will do just that and post the after pictures, although it might take a bit, I do not have the time as I used to for rehabbing.

Yes follow the process you described. She's going to look stunning! Could be tabac in colour which is my favourite. The holes just add to the character along with the patina and marks. The brass plating on the clips looks really worn. I have a strap like that and it's impossible to get the shine back but it doesn't detract from the bag.

Yes, you are right, the brass is in poor condition. I will of course try to make it look better, but I won't loose any sleep over it.
Thanks! :smile1:

Thank You! I will do just that, I'm just waiting for BlackRock to arrive so I can treat few scratches on leather.
