OO! Here's what Debi suggested to me for my musty Saddlery bag:
Brush the inside seams with bleach. Dunk, reshape, dry.
Get Leather Rejuvenator and apply according to the instructions (I found it listed as "Leatherique Rejuvenator" on Amazon.)
Wrap it in a plastic bag to allow the bag to absorb all the rejuvenator. (This helps with the dryness of the leather.)
Then apply Leather Therapy Restorer and Conditioner to help inhibit mold and mildew.
Unfortunately I haven't done this yet so I can't speak to how well it works, but I totally trust Debi's recommendation. The rejuvenator arrived today so I'm probably going to apply it soon. And the other downfall is the products are not cheap, but hopefully last awhile since I'm not planning on dealing with musty, moldy bags any more than I have to.

Thanks! Will give it a try. I have a stinky old watermelon bag to deodorize too. Mo money, mo money....

I am worried about dunking it because there are pen marks in other places and I don't want them to bleed. Do you think I should be ok? Ha the weather is horrible here! So cold! I guess I could always put it under a lamp or something! Please let me know!
Pen marks won't bleed. Ink spots will though. You could try the zit cream under a lamp. Not sure if it would work.Or you could try maramd's suggestion.

OK here is the zit cream on a blush colored patent leather bag. This was the first one I tried it on and I applied it with a que tip. This was some sort of black marker that wouldn't clean off with anything I tried. This was one application and one sun bath. It took off all the marker but darkened the blush coloring where it was applied. I put it aside because I have a few tiny places that I missed of marker so it will get another application and sun bath, then I have to figure out what I'm going to do with it.

Just wanted all of you to see the patent leather results.

Here is what the inside looks like. Is it safe to dunk? I'm tempted.. Should I try the zit cream? Or should I just wash it? Do you think it is nessacary to wash it, could I just blot the spot with a wet towel? Or do you think I should just dunk it? The previous owner said she did not dunk it in fear of bleeding. But it does not look that bad. Please let me know what you think!

Definitely dunk it! The ink marks are so tiny it wouldn't bleed. The only ink marks you have to worry about bleeding are those giant ink spots you'll see on bags, where it looks like a pen just touched the side and bled all over the place. Simple swipes of a pen are no big deal but still a pain to remove.

Grease spots that appeared after the bath. Is there a good grease spot remover out there? Tried Zout and tried Leather therapy wash With no luck. The leather is so nice everywhere else.

I just purchased Madison Hailey off Ebay. I usually don't buy secondhand but couldn't resist this one.
It's overall in great condition but I would still like to clean it inside and out as it has been used by somebody else... I could use leather cleaner and conditiioner outside but how to wash inside?

It's Mahogany leather and light sateen inside. I have rehabbed only one vintage legacy city bag and turned out great but it didn't have lining and was much thicker, stronger leather?

Thank You ladies in advance!

::returning to the hunt, refreshed and reinvigored after reading all the coach salearea guides...

my eyes are dazzled by this!

is this perhaps a misguided marketing effort--i.e., bag doing twist to demonstrate its grooviness??

or, no, perhaps the photographer was under the weather that day?? or, or..
LOL! At that price, and with the shoulder strap missing, you'd think the seller would make more of an effort to present the bag in its best light!

Sprinkle with corn flour or baking soda, cover with kitchen paper and apply gentle heat with an iron. It might draw some of it out. You can do the same on the suede side.

Otherwise, Acetone, but you'd have to scrub the entire flap with it to even it out. Or just leave it, condition with LT or CPR and then Obenauf's. You might find that it becomes less noticeable as it dries and the conditioner darkens the surrounding leather.

You can pull the lining out and wash it with dishwashing soap and water. Rinse completely. If it isn't very dirty you can use a mild spray cleaner that doesn't need rinsing. If the leather has a bit of a sheen on it like my cornflower Hailey, I think it is a bit water resistant so it should be fine if it gets a little wet. I wouldn't dunk it though, not because water would damage it but because I don't think the finish can take much abuse without showing wear. I've never conditioned my Hailey. I've seen some with worn corners so some Blackrocks or Obenaufs would probably give it an extra layer of protection.

Thanks! I'll try the heating and corn flour first.
