I dunked a Fossil and it was a disaster. There was some kind of glue in the seams that melted out and stained the bag worse than it was before.

I can't imagine living in such a cold climate. It was in the 50s today and I was freezing!

I did the same with a Fossil and the lining literally came apart. I haven't really figured out what to do with it yet. I love my Fossil bags so it bummed me out.

I think I'll wash mine again and then give it to charity if it doesn't improve (if there is anything left to give.) Even the strap isn't salvageable. The previous owner tied it into a knot and I've never been able to get rid of the kinks. It was only $1 at a garage sale so it's not a big deal.

Can you take the strap off?

I hate it when girls have tied knots in the straps. Usually it is the little thin ones that can't be removed.

Wow, ok back into the box it goes. It's not terrible looking but I wanted to reshape it and see if I could work on a few stains but I will step away from the sink with that one! It's funny because when they are new, both Fossil and Tignanello, they appear pretty well made. But then I guess that's why Coach has always been more expensive-- durability.

It is removable. It would have been nice to use on another bag if it wasn't ruined. I don't think the leather is as nearly as nice as Coach. It is much thinner, which allowed for a tighter knot. I bet that if someone ties a knot in a Coach strap, it would be fixable.

Maybe you could try some steam for a reshaping?

On to the next project-- did I mention it's nearly 0 degrees F out tonight? I guess I'm a little stir crazy and wanting to attack the pile that has built up over the last few months.

Has anyone ever tried dunking a Tignanello leather bag? I have one-- an older and simpler one that is natural leather much more like vintage Coach-- but I think I can feel a thin stiffener of some sort on either side. I'm afraid I might ruin it.
I went thrifting in my part of MD today since I had to be out anyways and there was hardly anyone out! It was weird, but kinda nice. I found a couple things for myself along with a ton of ugly foach bags in a rainbow of colors--they were all Stewardess knock-offs with a side pocket for a cell phone. I'm almost positive a couple of them have been there since early December.

I had a knotted up mess of a strap that I knew I wouldn't be able to fix, but I was able to straighten it out. I washed it twice in the washer. The first time I laid it out until it was fully dried and stiff. I laid some heavy things all along the length of it. Then I washed it again and conditioned the doo doo out of it while it was still wet. Viola! It worked.

I keep a collection of miscellaneous straps in case I have to replace something. Definitely the Coach straps are the easiest to do anything with.

Yeesh! Good to know. I have a Fossil bag that I've been debating throwing in the washer since it's coated canvas, but maybe I shouldn't after all.

I have washed a couple of the coated canvas and they came out fine. But they weren't lined at all. Does yours have a lining? The leather trim dries out a lot so it needs a fair bit of tlc when your done.

I washed it in very hot water, stretched it out and laid heavy books on it. I also tried ironing it under a press cloth. It is flat now, but wavy.

Yeah, it's funny when you start recognizing the same sad bags. There's a pink suede Coach Soho something-or-other at the place I go to most often. It's filthy beyond being worth the bother and it's been hanging there for $30 for over a month. My GW never discounts their bags so it will probably still be there come spring thaw...

I've dunked both an older Tignanello and a Fossil with good results. The Fossil had a gross stain on one side and so was priced low at Savers. The stain came out completely in the bath.

So I have found one of the grottiest most filthy and dragged-through-the-mud bags I've ever seen-- both inside and out. In one of the pockets I found a receipt for the bus in Ocean City (not sure Maryland or NJ but it's all the same) and can only imagine a drunk college girl dragging this bag on the bus only to pass out in a puddle of beer and use this as a floor pillow. I only paid a few dollars for it and I'm thinking of just throwing it in the washing machine. Can I hose it down with a pre-soak first? Soilove or Oxi spray? Any thoughts?
I agree with whateve. It should come up well. (I had an interesting experience in Ocean City MD in 1985. I would have been the same age as your imagined college girl. Luckily I didn't have to get on a bus but I did have to find my way back to our accommodation!)
