I was thinking of dunking my nubuc hippie flap but did a search for "nubuc" on this forum and Voila! from just a few days ago. Does that mean the color actually came out duller after you dunked it? (I'm assuming you dunked it...?) I was brushing my bag and realized there are a bunch of marks (just water splatters I think) on the front flap and was considering dunking it to even it out. No go?
I have dunked at least 3 nubuc Sonomas. They didn't come out duller. They just didn't come out brighter. Even brushing didn't help. You know how when you dunk a leather bag and the leather always comes out a deeper, richer color? That doesn't happen with nubuc so it isn't very satisfying. They didn't get noticeably cleaner either. If you've got water splatters I think you should go for it. The only way it would get worse is if the lining bled. I was very careful with mine to make sure the wet lining didn't touch the purse while it was drying.

I had to cancel the transaction for my XL Bleecker Duffle because the seller didn't pay even when I opened a no pay claim with ebay. Only one reply to my many messages, promising to pay within 24 hours. That was 3 days ago. Sometimes It appears that people think they don't have to reply to you if you're not in the same country! It happens often when I ask buyers questions. They just don't respond. It's really rude.

Anyway I sold it immediately to another buyer who also paid immediately.
I don't think it has anything to do with you being in another country. I think it is just standard with the Internet. They don't know you so they think they don't have to be polite. Congratulations on selling it again. It seems that happens often. This time the bag is going to the right person.

My crummy seller ignored me and we live in the same state!

Did you see my picture of the rust Bleecker large flap? I posted it in the What Coach are you carrying today thread.

You're probably right.

That Bleecker Flap is gorgeous. Love the colour. The pirate fob is so cute and goes so well with the bag.

I went through my files and realised that I had a black 11420 a couple of years ago before I seriously got into Coach bags. I bought it with a matching walket/chequebook for about $110. Both have long been sold. How could I have been so dumb?! :lecture:

Aw, it would have been better not to know! I bet you can't even remember if it was comfortable to carry. I now make it a rule to carry every bag at least once, or at least try my things inside, before I make the decision to sell.

I really didn't want to return the suede bag from the horrible seller without at least trying it out, but I couldn't bear to put anything in it without washing it first.

At that stage I was only buying to sell at markets so I didn't even try it, but I vaguely remember being really impressed by the quality, size and the braided straps. I think I can just make it out at the back far right behind the Brighton!

I've dunked several Sonoma nubuc bags. The are not as rewarding to rehab as smooth leather but dunking does get rid of simple stains. Have you tried an eraser and just brushing the nap? Sometimes that is all that is needed. If you do dunk, start brushing while it's still damp. That will raise the nap and soften it.

Thanks. I think I will give it a go, especially since I tried to just blot a spot I thought was some sort of slightly crusty sugary stuff and have now added another water spot. :p I've had pretty good luck with re-fluffing (I know there is a better word but I can't think of it. Need more coffee...) suede wristlets and suede patches on fabric bags. I just recently washed a filthy Coach pink kiss lock wristlet, scrubbing it with vinegar and baking soda first, and now it is perhaps half as filthy as before but the pink is definitely duller and a little-- cloudy-- looking where I scrubbed it the most. Bit of a disappointment. But the nap came back nicely!

I also have a big nubuk Sonoma bucket bag that needs a bath so maybe I'll make it a nubuc day. I go back to work next week so might as well make the most of these days.:doggie:

Wow! Do you still do markets? What a great set up! That looks like a real investment...
Thanks. It was fun ... sort of. My daughter and I did them for a while but it was really hard work to set up and pack down. A 12 hour day with no guarantee of return. The weather would have an impact too.

What really got me was the number of people who would come and have a look and say "These are knock-offs, right?" And they wouldn't have cared if I'd said yes! It's easier to sell on ebay. Bigger market, no weather issues and no commission until I sell. It was $60 for a stall site whether I sold anything or not and I had to have public liability insurance which cost $195 a year.

Decided that my old heritage tote is going to be refinished from pink leather trim, to black. The bag holds a lot of very uncomfortable memories and I thought black would be a nice way to give her a sexy new look. I don't want to ever get rid of her, but she's been rather unloved as is. :(
Would deep pink dye alright with Tarrago? Would removing some of the colour a bit be a better option?

Also recently bought a partially refurbished Chanel jumbo that I'm going to change some things on. I don't like the way the new chain leather is.. It wasn't sewn closed at the ends but rather somewhere in the middle...Also don't like the replacement screws they used inside.. They look like obvious replacement ones and don't match the plate too well. The rest looks pretty lovely.
Do you think I could find teeny tiny handbag screws at a hardware store? They're so specific... I know ACE hardware has tons of sizes of screws but maybe I should call ahead...

I think people are just so okay with knock-offs nowadays. I have seen them at my local flea market often and the owners of the market don't seem to care there's illegal products being sold on their property. It would be very refreshing to find an authentic seller stand, ugh. ; ~ ;
I can understand why it wouldn't be much fun after a while. People just *expect* fake knockoffs being sold in market stands ... "$35?! $120?! I can go get a fake one at ____!" yeah but it'll fall apart in no time where as an authentic will last you years and years..

I knew I read that, I just couldn't remember who said it! Ha! Ha! I feel the same way. Other people's yuck grosses me out! I've never had an issue with "pre-loved" but I have to clean it first.

That is a lovely display Two.Time. It looks very professional. Too bad That kind of effort and all the work involved is beyond most market patrons!

Thanks MissBaltimore for the marker tip! :smile1:

So I have found one of the grottiest most filthy and dragged-through-the-mud bags I've ever seen-- both inside and out. In one of the pockets I found a receipt for the bus in Ocean City (not sure Maryland or NJ but it's all the same) and can only imagine a drunk college girl dragging this bag on the bus only to pass out in a puddle of beer and use this as a floor pillow. I only paid a few dollars for it and I'm thinking of just throwing it in the washing machine. Can I hose it down with a pre-soak first? Soilove or Oxi spray? Any thoughts?
So here is my patchwork tote after two times thru the washer. First time with Oxiclean Prewash followed by a liquid delicate soap. Not really any improvement. Second time I emptied 1/4 bottle of Soilove on the already wet bag, dripping with it inside and out, and then the delicate soap in the washer. That made a difference! The lining is almost perfect. The outside is much better but hardly perfect. I doubt I'll get the suede bottom to look any better, and the straps are still pretty badly stained, but I wish I knew a way to keep the natural leather piping around the top from bleeding downward onto the fabric. I've had that problem before and haven't figured out how to keep it from happening. Before pics in the attached thread. After as follows...

And while I'm posting photos, here's the pink suede wristlet I worked on. You can see that one side is now kind of faded and cloudy looking compared to the other and it is still pretty dirty looking (although considerable less so than before the bath). I'm thinking this might be a candidate for a "color conversion". Maybe deep purple will hide the dirt...

I've had luck with using Resolve carpet steamer concentrate mixed with water for cleaning handbags. :D You can probably use normal Resolve carpet cleaner, but I'd test a small section before doing the whole thing,

A redye should definitely cover that up. I can imagine it being a gorgeous royal purple..ooooohh...
