Happy New Year, everyone!
So my latest find was a truly lucky one. I was looking for a messenger bag. I was ready to bite the bullet and pay $$$ for one, then I began searching craigslist ads in various cities. Viola! I found my 'unicorn' in New York City…for $30!!! Got it in the mail yesterday and I'm so excited! She's beautiful and exactly what I wanted. So now, I'm hoping for some advice for the few blemishes she has. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Blemish #1: ink stain

Blemish #2: ?Sticker? residue?

I'm thinking the 'sticker' issue might be resolved with the bath I intend to give her, but I'm worried about putting her in the bath and having the ink bleed further or stain more of the bag. Looks like an exploded pen at some time.

The ink will spread if you put it in a bath. You need to work on that first. Use alcohol or acetone to try to give rid of as much as possible. You won't be able to remove it all. You'll have to use some acrylic or dye to disguise it on the outside of the bag when you are done.

No, I believe it to be a carrier. Has outside back pocket. Here are two pics of the inner pocket and creed:

Is anyone able to shed some light on the difference between the musette and the carrier?

They came out with three bags that were VERY similar: The Musette, Carrier and Swag Bag. The Musette is the smallest, Swag Bag is the biggest. I believe just the Carrier has a back pocket which makes it easier to set apart from the others. TetonDeb made a picture of all three together.

I agree with whateve that you need to deal with the ink first. You will need alcohol and lots of absorbent paper and patience. If the sticker residue doesn't come off in the bath, acetone should shift it. It's a big project and will look gorgeous when you've finished.

I don't have experience rehabbing bags yet. If I just use a surface cleaner then condition my carrier--maybe steering clear of the ink spot--can I leave the ink removal & soaking bath for later, when I know what I'm doing?

Tried removing/lightening pen marks (lines, not an explosion like in my carrier's pocket) using acetone & alcohol on a $3 yellow swing wallet I found. Soaked, bathed & drying now.
