I'm curious for my sake too, what dremel tools do you use for polishing brass/silver?? And this Is after you clean the hardware? Polishing just makes it shiny? Sorry I get mixed up!:) thank you!!
I don't have a Dremel though I'm going to ask Santa for one for Christmas! :santawave:

I use Brasso to clean off tarnish and verdigris, then very fine steel wool to remove any scratches and the clear coating that is often peeling off anyway. Sometimes I just use vinegar instead of Brasso. Then I polish it with a soft cloth to make it shiny. The Dremel comes with different attachments. There would be attachments with various grades to clean off stuff with, and a polishing attachment.

OK so I finished this Classic Pouch after the strap on the flap stuff up:

I scrubbed the suede side with acetone and re-dunked. It didn't seem to make a huge difference so I sprinkled the suede side with cornflour, covered with paper towels and applied heat with an iron. It seemed to help even out the darkened areas. Then Obenauf's, buffing, Leather Therapy, more buffing and finished with Black Rock. Before pics are first.

Wow, it looks great! I'm surprised that the stain from the rolled up strap didn't budge with acetone and a bath. Wasn't it just conditioner? Would you use the cornflour technique for grease stains?

One thing I've noticed about every classic pouch I've seen is that there is always a dark stain above both inside edges. Do you think there is some kind of adhesive they used that made this stain?

Gorgeous color! I love the straps on this bag. It's a great size too, don't you think?

It looks great. Can't wait for mine to be finished.
Thanks bigal. They are a really good size and surprisingly lightweight.

Thanks maramd.

Thanks whateve. In hindsight I'm thinking that maybe I wasn't to blame for the dark marks on the flap after all. Instead I'm thinking that washing it brought them out. The first pic is from when I first got it so there was a mark there, however it wasn't showing on the suede.

Yes, I would use the cornflour technique for oil or grease stains.

I'm not sure I know what you mean about the inside edges? I have three CP's now (and a fourth on the way!) and I can't work out where you mean.

Here is my classic pouch project. It got a bath yesterday and will get another today as I could not get the verdigris off. So I will be trying again. Maybe the second bath will also help more with the crease on the front flap too.

So, the strap was so dry the leather was cracked. I'm hoping once I'm finished with conditioning that will be less noticeable and will stabilize the leather as well. Last picture is the strap after the bath, it shows the cracks.

Hello ladies :smile1:
Hoping you can help me. I have never rehabbed anything. Frankly, I am in awe of the work you all do! I've tried to read through some of your posts for advice, but my head is spinning. I have the Madison gathered accordion wallet in Punch... which I love and have been carrying non-stop for a few years. Sadly, the leather edging (not the gathered leather) has darkened in some areas... not sure if this is from use or from rubbing up against other items in my purse. I tried using Coach cleaner on it (even though I know most of you recommend against using it). It didn't do anything to remove the "stains", but instead transferred some of the leather colour onto my rag! Boo!!! Can anyone recommend a leather cleaner that might help? TIA!!!

The dark marks are patina. It is caused by the natural oils in your hands.
The only leather cleaner I've heard of that might work is Leather Master degreaser, but there's no guarantee. You apply it, wait for it to dry. It brings the oil to the surface so you can brush it iff, then you repeat the process. It can be quite drying of the leather, which may create issues of cracking.

You could condition the entire wallet with Black Rock which might darken the leather slightly all over and make the patina less noticeable.

The more leather is handled the more patina it develops, so the best thing is to handle it less.

Almost twins, I have this wallet in raspberry. I've never found leather cleaner to remove much other than color.

I think you could touch up the color on the edges but you would have to be very careful and willing to take a risk. I would do it to my gathered wallet if it needed it. I would look for a matching acrylic craft paint. They come in tons of colors and only cost a few dollars. Then mix a little paint with a lot of conditioner. If you have Apple or Lexol, that would work. Use your finger to dab on the paint/conditioner mix onto the darker areas, slowing building it up until you are happy with the results. If you don't like it, you can clean it off with leather cleaner. After awhile, it will become permanent.

The area that always looks dark to me is the top edge of the front pocket and the top edge of the bag under the flap.
