with a rehab project-- so far two coats of apple and it seems to be getting dryer/more wrinkled--is that normal? does that mean I should buff and keep coating?

TIA... trying to post pics but the system won't let me : (
Your pics might be too big. You need to resize.

Apple is not suitable for rehabbing. Try LeatherTherapy or Leather CPR. Two coats, buff in between and finish with Black Rock.

I have the compact brief in red...love it. hope I can rehab it as nicely as yours.

Thanks.

I'm working on my third rehab and I'm a little concerned about something.

It's an early basic bag with the Talon zipper and glued on serial number. Its in amazing condition, hardly any wear, but it smells like faint musty perfume and I feel better bathing it too.

This is the first rehab I've done on a bag this old, so processes certainly have changed. When I washed it the dye run-off was insane. Nothing compared to the other two I did, a pre-1994 Devon bag and a 2002 Legacy Hobo. I did a few soaks and while the dye run-off decreased by the last soak there was still a very noticeable amount. Dye transferred to the cloths it was laying on to dry more heavily than my other bags. I just put Leather CPR on the strap, which is more dry than the body of the bag, and got a lot of dye transfer.

I don't think it's shoe polish, because it doesn't really look any different - like, no damage is starting to show through.

I don't have a picture of the water but here's a cloth that I used to put the CPR on and under that is a cloth that the straps have been drying on.

It's very common for the NYC bags to bleed copiously. I have a bunch of towels with dye stains from rehabs. The dyes they used later were more colorfast.

Hey ladies :) My current rehab project isn't Coach but you seem to be the savviest bag rehabbers on TPF. My question isn't a super complex one, just.. what Dremel model do I need to go for to polish hardware? I'm dealing with a vintage Hermes with silver tone hardware that is just a disaster (a cheap eBay find).

I have no dog to polish the nails of so I don't want to overspend on something that might just be for one project :)

If it's only for one project, then perhaps just use fine steel wool.

Avoid Meltonian or any polish. You should only need CPR. Buff with a brush or microfibre cloth. If you want more 'glow' you could finish with Black Rock.

After 2 more coats of leather cpr using my fingers and soft towel to buff, color still coming off! Today I did a coat of blackrock, annnd ta da, no more black coming off. Yay.

Buffed, but want to try one more coat of blackrock to see if rough patches completely go away. Let it "dry" for a day or so before second coat?

yes, it helps to wait a day or so.
