Another question: what is the best tactic for black purses that have faded? I have two bags in great condition except that they have faded to a greyish black. I dunked and am using CPR and plan to use Blackrocks, but perhaps there are other suggestions?

Thank you!

I've got a new bag for the rehab pile. Love it! Not in hand yet, but it has some sort of sticky substance on it. I think it will come right off with magical leather CPR. I believe this is a Coach 65th Anniversary Bleeker Legacy Thompson Bag, style 11373. I found this one at shopgoodwill.com. I like this bag so much I just bought another, in pale green.

I'm cleaning a Coach Slim Duffle 9060 I got recently and there are some tiny spots on the bag that almost look like bleach spots. I dunked the bag quickly in warm water and Dawn to loosen some debris inside the lining. Cleaned with saddle soap and a horse hair brush and applied one coat of Leather CPR. Any suggestions what I can do next to fix the spots?

Well, the ink did end up bleeding through a little. I realize the biggest splotch wasn't in any of the photos. But it looks like the rest of the bag really benefitted from the dunk.
This is not advice for you, just a story. I had a bag with a dark mark. I covered it over with a pretty leather flower. Or several. To make it look intentional. I've also seen (these are not recommendations, just stories and thoughts), a person took their bag's boo-boo and made it more so. One bag had this giant circle on it...wish I could find the picture to share. Your mark looks like a HEART to me. You could make it look more like a heart, fill the outline. So, you'd have a brown bag with a black heart on the back. It's kind of like not ignoring the elephant in the room, it's more like pointing him out and riding him. Or, leather paint applied to the spot to make it less noticeable, or some matching color shoe cream. Or, leave it be! Options!!

You posted a pic of the bag with the leather flowers and it came out gorgeous. I even looked at the flowers on Etsy and I don’t have any spots to cover. Yours looked like it came from Coach that way!

Thanks! With that bag, it was more a cover-up of textural problems---warping & melt marks, someone thought. :)

Sometimes that happens, here is my Lexington Briefcase that I purchased online from Goodwill DC for $29.00. Before dunking, saddle soap, Leather CPR, Alcohol Swabs & Saphir Juvacuir Recolorant (#37 Med. Brown, for British Tan thanks to Lake Effect for posting color info) and after. Still can see the ink and water mark but it does not bother me cause its on the back. I use the briefcase for all my important documents in case I have to bug out from a hurricane. (I live on the TX. gulf coast.)

Maybe I will try that series of options. I am still trying to decide if I care or not, but I like the way yours looks!

Thank you. I've learned to embrace the bags imperfections. It gives it character. Plus I have a beautiful quality leather, well made 29 year old bag, that I could not replace today for the price that I paid. It taught me a lot about ink stains in leather.

I have admired that style for ages! Enjoy! I would if I saw it cheap while thrifting.

Okay so medium brown matched BT for you too? Hmmm. How long ago did you buy it and from what source?
And nice! Love me some BT.

Be aware that I question if my container of Saphir Juvacuir medium brown, and possibly above, was incorrectly labeled. I bought it around 5 years ago expecting it to be a darker brown, from their color chart. Another member bought it after me and it was a match for mahogany!
