Good afternoon All,

I am working on rehabbing a vintage Small Safari Bag and on both side pockets there is a prong missing from the back side of the female side of the turnlock set up. I broke another one off as I was removing it, on one side. My question to everyone is:
A - Would you clean and replace the original hardware?
B - Would you clean the good pieces and just replace the damaged piece?
C - Would you replace the whole turnlock?

Is there more or less value in any option?

TIA - for all info and opinions - I am planning to sell it after I finish the rehab.

Also, is there a way to regain the bags original shape(pull up a sagging side) without dunking the whole bag? TIA
generally I think they are worth more with original parts. If you are selling it, it should be up to the buyer whether to replace or not.

WHat you need to do is either go to or call your local post office. Have them check the GPS coordinates that will tell them if it was misdelivered or if the seller pulled a fake tracking scam. (Fake tracking scams are cases in which the seller ships a widget to a location in the same zip code so delivery is "proven" and filing INR (item not received) will lose you the case since there's tracking showing delivery.)

They may not tell you exactly where it was delivered but can give a letterhead documentation stating that the shipping label and the delivery address don't match.

(IMO, this probably isn't a case of a fake tracking scam though. I think it's human error or the mailman scanning as delivered but didn't get it to you that day. You might wait another day or so to see if it's delivered to you.)
Thank you so much for your positive energy and advice on this one! My hubby intercepted our mail carrier and they found the package!! Mis-delivered to someone else's parcel locker. I got the bag! It's perfect, beautiful, and in amazingly good shape. Just have to do something about the musty smell...

Thanks for posting your clean-ups and rehabs! It is a reminder for me to look for this cute Y2K bag I have somewhere that is perfect for summer and clean it up. Before August arrives …
This poor little Chelsea zip was on auction on ebay, and no one wanted her. I did! Mangled and creased. And the strap attachment needs some re-gluing. No biggie! The bag is actually in fabulous condition and is coming along nicely. It was sold as black but I think it's navy.

Did my post get removed? I made a long one that seems to have worked because I'm now subscribed to this thread, but it's gone and so is my post history of it.
Generally posts get removed when they violate guidelines. See terms & rules at the bottom of this page.
Under your profile you’re only showing 1 post which accounts for this one. You don’t need to subscribe to any thread. Now that you are a member of thePurseForum, you can post in any thread. It can take a bit of time to navigate around and understand how the different forums, subforums and threads are laid out.
Maybe start with a few short posts to test the waters here. We were all new here once. I get it.

Did you get a notification of removal? It might just be a glitch, or something to do with being a new member with a "waiting period." Post again!!
I guess it was removed, there's no other explanation I can think of, but I don't have any notification of removal, and I would really love to at least have the post back so I can copy the text I worked hard on, and post it to another forum.

Has anyone tried cuticle remover for ink stains? There is a girl on TikTok who rehabs Coach bags who uses it with some success.
I've tried it on a Putty bag, with limited success. However, I think a lot depends on how long the ink has been on the leather. The stain I worked on was very well-established. After many different treatments, I got it to fade (it went from very dark blue to pale denim blue) but it's still there.

Wow, you learn something everyday. I've never even heard of these "bin" stores aka "outlet" stores for goodwill. The goodwills near me are just retail thrift stores, with every item individually priced and Coach bags run around $40-$80. And there IS an Outlet Store in Seattle. I'll have to plan a trip there to see what it's all about!
I'm thinking the same thing! There are no bin stores/outlets in Massachusetts, where I live, but there's one just over the state line in New Hampshire!

1. probably not. A lot depends on how old the ink stain is. It's probably better to try to cover it up.
2. This might be fixed since it is white. I've had fantastic results with benzoyl peroxide zit cream. It bleaches out stains. It takes a while. I usually apply the cream to the stains, then sit the bag in the sun for a long time. Clean it off the next day, and if there are still stains do it again. It won't do anything to wear but it's great on stains.

If you decide to paint or dye, white is probably the easiest to cover.
Echoing #2. I have a Bone bag with a couple of lines of blue ink inside. After learning about benzoyl peroxide cream here, I bought some and applied it with a tiny paintbrush. Let it sit overnight, wiped off with a white* cloth, let dry. 2 nights of this and the ink is barely noticeable.

*Don't let the cream touch colored textiles with color. It will discolor them.
