My favorite vintage bag for my lifestyle which is carry everything AND the kitchen sink is the stewardess! That's my bag and I've got many.

Ideally the edging should be replaced rather than filled. If you have a donor bag, you can pull off the edging and attach it to this bag. Then dye it to match. It really depends on how energetic you feel.I pulled out this bag today which has been sitting around for about a year. I started the rehab and never finished. Was in really rough condition. The strap was shredded (before pics below) and I reglued it. Still doesn't look great. Bag has lots of dark marks as well (color loss). Question for the hive mind. Do I want to use a filler product on the strap and then also re-dye the whole bag red again? Or sell it cheap as is and call it a day?
Would it be kosher to use a counterfeit coach bag edging as donor? I have this in my "fake" pile. And I don't mind cutting it up!Ideally the edging should be replaced rather than filled. I don't see why not! Leather is leather. If you had a cobbler replace the piping, it likely wouldn't be done with Coach leather.Would it be kosher to use a counterfeit coach bag edging as donor? I have this in my "fake" pile. And I don't mind cutting it up!
Thing is, I'm not 100% sure the fake is 100% real leather. It's got a suede interior, so some of it is leather.I don't see why not! Leather is leather. If you had a cobbler replace the piping, it likely wouldn't be done with Coach leather.
did you get it authenticated? What year is it from? If it is absorbing water, it probably needs conditioning, probably a lot of it. The hardware should shine up with brass polish. I believe some people have put clear fingernail polish on it.Hey all! Anyone have tips for protecting vintage coach?
I just got this bag and its a very matte finish, if any water touches it gets very dark temporarily.
Not sure if standard leather oils or protective sprays would work with this.. I want to protect it while keeping the finish of the bag.
Also theres some damage to the hardware, it looks more like the plating has scratched off. Any tips on protecting any further damage?
keep us updated!Update. I've decided to go for it. Here's the corroded piping stripped ergo flap. And the donor leather. Color looks pretty good to me. I was thinking leather cement rather than sewing. Other idea. If I don't like how it looks, keep the strap without piping and add red edge kote to seal the edges.
I posted in authentication thread and it was ok, this one is from 94! Do you have recommendations for conditioning products? Not famiar with this kind of leather/finish, hesitant that I'll apply something that changes the colourdid you get it authenticated? What year is it from? I don't think the plating is coming off. You should try polishing first. Some polishes work better than others and with less elbow grease. I like Mother's and Cape Cod Polishing cloths. Mother's is heavier duty but you have to be careful to keep it off the leather. Cape Cod is easier to use but may not work as well if the tarnish is bad.I posted in authentication thread and it was ok, this one is from 94! Do you have recommendations for conditioning products? Ah ok so it should just be tarnish on the outside and not some plating that is coming off?
Thank you!
That's a lot of work you are putting into this bag. The piping is continuous from the bag, so I do not know how an edge-coated strap would look. The bags that are in the worst shape that require the most TLC are usually bags that I keep for myself. No one else would love them as much as I do.That's a lot of work you are putting into this bag.
