Hello everyone,
I have a vintage Coach question that I was hoping someone can answer…I recently purchased this bucket bag and it’s really dry. I’m using coats of leather CPR and now I notice the spotting. Is it some kind of fungus or dry rot?
Any help is appreciated! Thank you!IMG_0518.png

It sure looks like mold. I would make sure that if it is mold that it is dead.

Sometimes discolorations show up when you condition, and will likely diminish later after the conditioner has soaked in more. On occasion, I've redunked because of this happening.

I didn’t dunk it, it looked good prior just dry. I didn’t smell mold and I don’t see anything on the inside. The spotted pattern however reminded me of mold. I’ve never done this before. How do I kill the mold when I dunk it? Vinegar or running alcohol? And I assume I should keep it away from other leather for now?
Thanks a bunch

A new pricing milestone hit on an NYC crescent bag ($1800) - but the amusing thing, is ebay is pulling up CHANEL bags under "similar items" on this listing.

Just thought you would like to see my latest project bag Daypack backpack #9960 in Bottle Green from December of 1995. I did not have to do any repairs or touchups, but the bag sure needed to be dunked. Saddle Soap was not going to remove the amount of built up dirt and old conditioner that was on the bag. Into the Dawn bath it went. Drying stuffed with towels, finished off with multiple coats of Leather CPR and a final coat of Black Rocks, with buffing and polishing with a soft horse hair brush to achieve the shine.

You think for that price there would be free shipping. I realize there may be customs or import fees ( I have no clue how that works) and on my view it states $18 economy shipping United States.

yeah and that bag looks like it is covered in shoe polish, to me. I've gotten so I can tell what nice untouched leather looks like... like this

My latest project… I thrifted the Hampton for $6 and it was missing the strap. Found the badly damaged Signature for $9 and the strap works on the Hampton.

I didn’t want to just chuck the Signature so I salvaged it and with a bit of sewing, I now have a zipper pouch.

Is it perfect? Nope! But I’ll use it for something, lol!
rofl, the best part of this is the creed. Looks like you cleaned up the zipper pull too!

I have a soho suede chevron coming that looks pretty bad... I think I may need your repurposing advice for that one!

This is how the Hamptons turned out, btw. I did give it a bath and steamed the flap to reshape it where it was creased.

That creed did not go as planned. 😂 I wanted to reuse the original holes but my machine had a mind of its own. In hindsight, I should have hand-stitched it on. I may go back and color the thread to brown to hide it some. I figured it would be an ode to its original life. 😋

I have seen the Chanel bag shape referred to as a crescent, and if I recall correctly I have seen Bonnie Cashin for Meyers bags shaped like the Chanel crescent bag described as a crescent and as a fortune cookie! Coach offered crescent shaped bags in the 2000’s but not sure if they did back in (legit) Bonnie Cashin Coach days.
So I can how the Chanel bag got caught up by the wording in the listing.

Coach had some bags called fortune cookies around 2001. Bottega veneta also made one called a fortune cookie.
