Hello, knowledgeable ones! I got a vintage station bag with a turnlock that's too loose as it turns, and angled. Is there a way to tighten the internal mechanism of it? I pulled the thing off and I looked at it and the screw inside but I can't figure out the HOW of adjustment. Or does it just need to be replaced?

ETA: I found some (I hope the right size) replacements at the Buckleguy. https://www.buckleguy.com/3016-natural-brass-turn-lock-solid-brass-ll-four-piece-set/
Been fussing with the same issue on a station bag as well. I love a good puzzle but this one has me stumped. I’d love there to be an answer besides replacement but if not, thank for the link to a source.

Doing some research through this thread on turnlocks. The Buckleguy's turnlocks have the indents on the washer which "can" be an indicator of a fake Coach bag. So, I'm keeping my original washer and only replacing the actual piece you turn with your fingers. Assuming, of course, that I bought the right size and it's all compatible.
ETA: I found an old post by Hyacynth and she gives another source for the turnlock parts: https://www.ebay.com/itm/321493604654

I've always ended up replacing them when this happens.

Hi Team, need some help here...

I've looked through this site til I can't click another link, lol, and I still haven't found what I'm seeking.

Question: When you all say "Remove" hardware, does this mean "all" except for zippers...how is this possible, lol.

I've attached pictures of the two rehabs I just purchased and I'm sure these will get dyed...am I to remove the hardware shown; is it possible, lol. If so, please help with some tools used, youtube videos, pictures, anything you got...thank you so much

I don't think anyone removes the buckles on this kind of bag. If you did, you would have to have someone rivet them back on for you. If the one with the broken rivet breaks completely, you can take it to leather repair and have them put on a new rivet, or you can buy screw on rivet replacements.

The hardware that gets removed are turnlocks and anything else that can be removed and easily put back on. Even so, I wouldn't remove it unless it had verdigris or needed a lot of work.

got this pretty bag but it STINKS like cigarettes- Any advice how to remove the smell?

Giving it a bath might hep, but if it is lined and you don't want to go through the dunking process, first try storing it in a bag with activated charcoal. I have read elsewhere in this thread that helps with odors.

I have used the Buckleguy's turn locks - they are the right size/compatible. Definitely keep/use the original washer.

Does anyone have a relatively simple method for getting off the clear coating that Coach put on its turn locks in 90's and beyond to protect against tarnish? The stuff is half on and half off a lot of my turn locks and looks terrible. I have scratched the turn lock front on this City bag trying to remove it (sorry - hard to see in the pix).
I just rehabbed my Station bag from the 90s and it had the same janky/worn clearcoat problem. I took the hardware off, and used some 0000 steel wool to buff off all the clearcoat. It took a few minutes per piece. No chemicals required, just elbow grease.

ETA: you could start with 000. Once you get the clearcoat off, switch to 0000 to buff it a bit..
