The monogram I was thinking of is blind - it is just impressed into the leather - there is no color.

Years ago I bought this British Tan Companion Bag 9300 (made in NYC in the late 1980s) at the flea market for just $1, but it is monogrammed "MEC" and I don't know anyone with those initials. When I bought it I figured I would just cannibalize it and use the strap, hangtag, etc. for other rehab projects, but somehow I could never bring myself to destroy this lovely, clean, intact, vintage bag - so it is still sitting in my rehab pile.

I was just wondering if I could use some form of "water-logging" to obscure the monogram - just an idea.

Replying to an old post here - Has anyone had any luck removing imprinted (monogram) initials from a NYC bag? This post says to try "water logging". That would be hard for me because my bag is a dinky with the monogram on the bottom of the bag - no color, just "FM".

People don't want monogrammed bags obviously so these are typically very cheap. Yes I bought one, knowing I may not be able to remove the FM. But I am going to try.

I think color would be easier to remove than blind embossing. I remember a long time ago reading a thread in the LV forum about it but it was probably on canvas rather than leather, and I don't know if they got rid of the indentations. I would try steam.

Hello!
I’m new to this bag fluffing game some I’ve come here for some help. I purchased a 9951 Patricia’s Legacy and have just learned on the authentication forum that it is likely a fake. But it’s seems like a really good fake that I thought I could practice rehab technique and test some products on.

I’ve already given the bag a bath. I’ve stuffed it to form it well, but there are residual wrinkles on the side - prolly because it was stored flat for years. Poking around the forums I see that steam might be an option here? I have an old Rowenta clothes steamer. Would that work?

I have a distressed Ranch bag, it was rehabbed still I felt something wasoff about that bag. Finally I realized it was the brass square rings, they were thin, small and flimsy looking, they moved around during usage, sometimes the side with a gap became visible. Today replace them with two D-rings (same hardware as Willis), I prefer the new look much better, finally I can enjoy this well used Ranch bag, the size is quite big, but will be good for winter, room for scarf, gloves, etc..

The wrinkles look like natural leather markings to me, no need to try to remove them, probably can only be removed with industrial grade marchines anyway.
At least the leather is full grain.
More opinions welcome.

Does it have a creed? I'm always surprised that there are fakes of vintage bags.

I think the horseshoe rings are much more appropriate for a bag of that size. I agree that the original rings were way too wimpy

ETA the original rings looked ok close up and you only posted a more distant vision with the new hardware, but that is where the more substantial rings really made the bag.

@LunaSilver I’ve done the same thing. I like that those screw on d rings kind of lend an equestrian vibe too. I did some of these on a manor bag.

Ooh, I love the look. I need to remember this if I ever need to replace rings. Those would be a lot easier to put on.

Don't expect a fake to respond the same way a real Coach would. The leather is usually inferior. The wrinkles are probably permanent. Please do something to destroy the creed so it never falls into the hands of someone who might think it is authentic.
