Good Morning All! hope everyone is resuscitating their unicorns. I’m the new intern in this fantastic hospital- call me nurse Piggy.

i have a 9310 in good shape, just squished- needs shaping (plus a light makeover) How do you properly shape a bag that doesn’t need to be dunked?

OH! what’s the skinny on bags made in Costa Rica? seems like ppl talk about them.

Here’s my unicorn . Just got him. I’m scared to even clean him. His leather is very soft & supple. What would you do to this baby? The outside shadows are not soil marks. He’s a light greenish/ yellow- anyone have an idea age, color name? Have you ever seen this pull tab link? I have my ideas just want to consult the docs

Lovely! Didn't I tell you the name when I authenticated it? It's a watermelon tote ruff out made around 1976.

You can brush the suede and condition the smooth leather.

The zipper pull is called a paper clip zipper pull.

Here’s my learning bag 4924- how do you secure this pipping (i think that’s what it’s called? I have my ideas but want to be taught the correct way..

It needs to encased back inside the leather. The correct way to do it is to replace the piping with new leather. The easy way to do it is to glue the leather back together over the wire then use fabric puff paint to create a smooth surface.

I would probably dunk. It won't hurt and it might remove those white marks.

i was wondering what the name of the color- i should of check what age you authenticated it at- oof. i do remember it’s a watermelon bag- I will blame it on my blonde hair & my excitement about my bag …. can i just use my age? lol
i’m curious, i thought bags that had no creeds or ones with no #s were pre 1973- what is the rule of thumb on dating bags pre creed or pre #s. I’m so thankful for your knowledge being so new to this.

We don't know exactly when they started using creeds. I don't know where you read 1973. I've never thought it was that early. I guessed it was between 1975 and 1978. We know the ruff outs came out in 1976. Most of those that I've seen are pre-creed and the others have creeds with no numbers, so it reasonable to assume the change happened some time in 1976.

would you condition the bag before you glue it? do you have a favorite leather glue?
There is a recommendation of a glue a few pages back. I myself haven't tried it. I've used Fiebings leather cement. I would do it before conditioning unless you are going to dunk, then I would dunk and condition first.

tysm for the info- i really appreciate it

Anyone have a solution for a zipper on a vintage leather bag that sticks? Bar soap works for a couple of zips back and forth, then the zipper sticks again. The teeth appear to be in good condition and match up perfectly, but there is still stubborn zipper movement. Replacing the zipper is not an option - way too expensive.
