I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that. The dye I used is for aniline leather and the sealer is built in. Perhaps @LunaSilver, @Coachaddict4020 or @Hoku44 could chime in. They are more experienced and have had beautiful some successes. :hugs:
Thanks LZ,

I did dye some bags , the end results some are ok some are not, but I am not really 100% happy with any of them. I only used cheap dye brands, because vintage bags have different wear and oil build up, dye will be absorbed differently even on the same bag, it is hard to predict the result especially a light coloured bag ( if using cheap store bought alcohol based dye). It is very different from the dye process in a tannery, where they put unspoiled raw leather into a large drum filled with dye mixture and tumble it.
Sorry I offer no help here, but you and Coachaddict4020 both did fantastic dye work, with those expensive dye.

The 4924 is a great bag and I've had success with the lined pebbled bags I've dunked. Suggestion - before you dunk, get as much of the crud as possible out. If shaking doesn't work, try to vacuum it out. Pull the linings out as much as possible from the bag before dunking. When the linings take on water, they do act as a "life jacket" and don't allow the bag to stay submerged in the dunk. Water bottles help to keep the bag submerged.
Good luck!

Did you use vinegar in your first dunk? If it smells musty there could still be live mold. I would put it out in the sun for awhile. That usually helps kill mold. Also just sitting outside for a week or two in a shaded area usually helps with odors. I usually try to get rid of most of the odor before dunking.
it’s dry now, i would say yes to active mold- no vinegar when i dunked it- what’s the order of operation for this stinky guy now? never delt with this stink.

If you think a soft toothbrush might be too abrasive, perhaps a qtip/cotton swab might lift some more residue??? It's a beautiful shade of green, so I understand you want to proceed cautiously with it. Good luck!
I used my kiwi shoe horse hair brush. It's still wet so it's hard to tell just how successful it was right now. I think when I mix up paint for the corners a little along the edge of the straps will spruce it up a lot!

Actually I do have a Burgundy small shoulder bag that I dyed and quite happy with the result.
It has NYC creed, bag was very faded especially around pipping. I applied 2 coats of Feibing’s burgundy dye on damp bag, with 24 hours in between. Then conditioned with lots of CPR for several days, as the dye dried out the bag . It was set aside for about 3 month to let the dye worked it’s way deep into leather fibres, it was then dunked again to get rid of excess dye, following with CPR And black rock. No sealer was applied. The bag color looks quite natural. The last blurry photo is before , I only have a screen shot of the expired listing .

It's beautiful and turned out fabulous! Thank you so much for sharing! Your expertise is very helpful!

I got this Aqua Waverly today - the seller said the bag is in excellent condition with no blemishes. Unfortunately there’s stains (oil?) and worn out leather on the back. I haven’t accepted the order yet because I can’t decide if I should keep it and work on it or just ask to return it. If I do keep it, I’m hoping I might be able to get the stains out - they bother me the most. As for the small patches where the color was worn off, I might try CPR and see if they fade a little (if I decide to keep it).

I’m leaning towards opening a case and sending it back. I bought this particular bag because it didn’t have any blemishes. The pictures were deceiving as well. I’m so disappointed!

Do any of you have suggestions on how to work on the stains or worn patches? Maybe spot cleaning with saddle soap or dawn? 0A78DBE3-CFB6-44F9-AFC9-E0F491A8DE29.jpeg

I'd send it back. You can't work on it and then send it back. It needs to be returned in the condition it was received. It is extremely hard getting stains out of light colors without causing fading. Those look like oil stains, which are super hard to get rid of. I think it would be very hard finding one of these that is in perfect condition.
