Thanks for the tip! Do you think that the color will return after being cleaned? I have some spare suede dye in nearly the same color as the original but I won't be able to forgive myself if it turned out horrible :-s
I've never had the color come back on nubuc but I've only tried a couple times. Brushing has the most effect.

How can you tell which styles have solid brass hardware? Was there a certain year Coach switched to plated hardware?

A tip I picked up on this thread a long time ago is: use a magnet to test if the hardware is solid brass or plated. If the magnet sticks, it’s plated. If it doesn’t stick, it’s solid brass.

Not sure about when coach switched. I bet @whateve would have that info

I think that coach started to use plated brass in the late 80's, I don't think there is a specific date. I have a large nyc saddle bag that has buckles stamped solid brass USA from the 80's and it is very heavy. The weight is often a dead giveaway to solid brass.

A rehab for a vintage daypack that was in great condition and just needed a little tlc.

A lot of product recommendations here are from Americans, so I provided a photo of the products that I am using for any fellow Canadians looking for decent products they can find here. The tub shown is similar to the leather n rich often recommended and does a wonderful job revitalizing tired dry leather.

Process was bath->dry and shape-> leather cleaner->very rich conditioner and then the puffy paint to seal small holes on the edge.

I am not sure what you mean by "heat source damage"; do you mean color fading from the sun? Can you post pictures?
These are photos from the seller. When I asked if the spots could be removed, the seller responded that they look to be damage from a heat source. I just assumed that meant from being too close to a radiator, heater, stove or similar. I'm wondering if dunking will make the spots more prominent, or if the pebbling might mask some of the damage.

I don't know that the spots shown are caused by heat damage, they just look like normal signs of wear and handling to me - unless I am missing something?

Light bags can be tricky to rehab but it doesn't look bad and I would probably dunk it, but if it is expensive (or if you are concerned) then maybe you should take a pass and wait for another bag.

I'm so excited!!! I have a beautiful periwinkle Small Frame Bag 9990 on the way from a fellow TPFer! :yahoo:

Could someone in the know kindly advise if it's safe to dunk a bag with a metal frame??? :confused1:

Many thanks! :flowers:

Great bag! I have never rehabbed a framed bag like that but I have rehabbed several kisslock bags with metal frames and I was able to dunk them and they came out well.

Thanks for your input and thoughts, @katev. When I initially saw the spots, I thought of wear or a stain, but seller thought otherwise. As it turns out, the seller made an offer I couldn't refuse. Hopefully I made the right decision by accepting the offer and that the photos pretty accurately show what I'm in for.
