Sometimes our rehabs just don’t go as planned unfortunately. It’s nice to know you’re embracing the bags though, they’re still aqua & all lovely styles:hbeat:.

My 4020 rehab revealed a tonne of dark marks & discolouration. Im not sure what I can do to salvage it yet. I have bag ocd & struggle to carry things that have noticeable marks on them. Im sad about it, but I feel a bit better after reading your post. It’s comforting to know we’re not alone in our “disappointments”.:hugs:

I also have bag OCD, Ca... both when restoring and carrying. :hugs: I don't want to lower my quality of work when rehabbing, but I do want to nurture acceptance/appreciation for the bags and myself with the results

@LadaZuri your bags are beautiful. Aqua is a fickle color that taunts us with it's super saturated interior color. I rehomed an aqua regina because of only seeing it's flaws and not it's beauty. Enjoy those bags- they are stunning.

Thank you so much, z! I can so relate to your statement! Until yesterday's epiphany I was determined to sell my aqua Regina because of the tiny flaw shown below. I have reconsidered and will embrace all 4 of these extraordinary and imperfect bags!

The (almost invisible, but all I could see) wrinkle/flaw, just left of center on the topline of my Regina:

Your bags are absolutely gorgeous regardless of the "imperfections" you may see, as are the many, many other rehabs posted here by you and others. Wrinkles, lines and spots define the untold experiences, travels and stories of these Coach "mature ladies". Enjoy them!

I am missing a tiny brass screw from the turnlock plate on a Legacy Leather Shoulder Flap 11134, see pic below. I see that the Buckleguy sells tiny brass screws but they come in various sizes and I am clueless about the appropriate size. Or perhaps if I took it to a shoe repair he might have the right size screw?

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for replacing missing screws on Coach bags? TIA!

You might try eyeglass repair kits?

I would take it in to a place where they could find the right size for you. Otherwise you'll just be guessing.

Hi, rehabbers,
I have an Ergo Retro Small Zip that I bought for $12.25 on Goodwill because I thought it would be good for practicing my rehabbing skills. I knew it had some stains, mostly small except for one big noticeable one. After two baths, one just to get the dirt out and the second to scrub at the stains, I used Avel Detacheur stain remover - which I had read about others using successfully. I guess that hdon’t think that helped, but not that much. Then I did 3 Leather CPR treatments, mixing in some appropriately colored Meltonian shoe cream around the stain areas. (I read here that others have done this in a 2/3 CPR-1/3 Meltonian proportion and that’s what I did). After that I did two treatments with Blackrock. Please see the before and after photos. The big stain is less noticeable, but still much more prominent than I want to settle for.

I have ordered some acrylic leather paint in British Tan and thought that could be a next step but I don’t want to just paint over the spot- I’m sure the paint won’t exactly match and it would make the stain show even more in a different way. I thought I could mix some of the paint in with either CPR or BR and feather it out over and around the stains. What do you think? Any suggestions?

Lucy

I'd like to share my most recent challenges/disappointments and resulting life lessons with you. Perfection is a very high standard to uphold and sometimes downright impossible. It's high time I learned to love character and patina even in light coloured bags.

I have redunked the Duffle Sac 9085 and the Small Shopper 9993 4 times after 3 failed attempts to colour refresh them. Because their colour is a coating rather than a dye, they either have to be painted or embraced as they are. I've come to a place of acceptance and chosen the later.

Here they are with the aqua Lunch Box I've waited a year to restore because of losing the strap. All 3 are wet.

Duffle Sac with one spot on the front (disclosed by the seller) which I'd hoped to mitigate with colour refreshing and will now leave alone.

The bottom is a bit worn/faded, but beautiful nonetheless!

And the Lunch Box whose faded areas I'd planned to colour refresh, will now be treasured as is.

@Hoku44, I saw you posted a photo of a colour-refreshed Small Shopper 9993 in another thread! :hbeat: I am so interested in the details of your process if you wouldn't mind sharing! As you can see above, I had 3 failures on 2 bags.

Note to self: There will be no 4th attempt on said bags!!!

If it were my bag I would probably let it dry for a week or so while I mull over my options, then I would dunk again and try to get the stain out one last time. If that didn’t work I would dye the bag. Dark brown or mahogany. I am not a fan of painted bags, so that would not be an option for me.

Another option would be to use a leather conditioner that darkened the leather so the stain would blend in better with the rest of the bag. I’m not sure which ones darken- mink oil or something similar?

Try spraying it with concrobium mold control spray (you can get at home depot) I had a musty bag that remained musty until I used that. Sun and vinegar helped, but the mold control was the thing that finally killed the smell. The bag now smells of nothing and it's wonderful. The main ingredient in the mold control is baking soda, and the spray leaves no trace on the leather. I also used leather therapy conditioner that inhibits mold afterwards.
OMG, YES. I’ve mentioned concrobium mold control on this thread in the past. It’s worth the $10 investment & lasts forever. I’ve used it on many non-bag related things too, it’s a wonderful product to have lying around!

So here is my update. After giving the interior of sad Day Pack a thorough brushing of the interior suede with white vinegar and letting it air out Saturday and yesterday, the mildew smell is down by at least 50 percent and lol, it has a strong vinegar smell. Over lunch earlier I looked up my local Home Depot online to see if they had Concrobium in stock. Also coming up in view was another product, Krud Kutter (which comes in many varieties). And I remembered I had the Krud Kutter Mold and Mildew stain remover spray. I figured I would give it a shot first; it struck me as the "light" version of Concrobium. So I sprayed some on the suede and leather interior (the bag is still flipped), a squirt in the pockets and put it in my bathroom with the window open. About 7 hours later, the smell of mildew is almost completely gone and the smell of vinegar is greatly reduced!!! I'm really enthused that by the time I dunk it next weekend, the mildew smell will be completely gone.
Thank you Ginger and CA!

Try taking it to a local hardware store. (Not a chain store like Lowe's, but a smaller independent place. Ace might work, though.) I took a bag that was missing a screw one time to a hardware store, and they found one that fit.
