Hello all,

first time buying an older coach and trying to clean. I’ve seen a few videos of vintage leather bags being washed in dish soap but is that possible with a bag that has lining?
I’m super new to this and have finally found a reasonably priced bag to try as my first, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated

I live in the west coast so vintage is very popular here. Almost impossible to pick up an older leather bag

Personally I wouldn't dunk this bag. That is for unlined vintage and bags that are so far gone that they need extreme measures. You can clean the lining with a mild spray cleaner. If it pulls out, you could also use soap and water but then it would have to be rinsed and it is hard to keep water off the leather. If the leather gets wet, usually it doesn't water spot as long as it hasn't gotten soaked and is wiped off right away. I would use conditioner on the exterior.

If it's fairly clean then you don't need to give it a bath but if it's dirty, grubby, or stained then I would dunk it. I have dunked many lined bags and usually with good results.

Below are links to before and after pics of my Mahogany Bleecker Woven Pocket Hobo 12378 that needed 2 baths to finally get the lining clean.

I really love this bag and I have been carrying it all week!

Good luck with your rehab; my Copley is Butter and it is a difficult color to rehab - like most light-colored bags!

But it is a beautiful colorful, it was introduced as a Spring Color in 1996:

Just an observation of the catalog that now raises the question....How many of you ladies sit by the pool with your Coach leather bag?? Aren't you a bit concerned about it being splashed with chlorine water?? :frown:

Sometimes I take pictures of my bags near the pool. The light is better there. I'm always nervous I'll drop them in.

I'm looking for advice on leather glue and gluing techniques!

The leather strap of my Bleecker Elisa Leather Hobo Bag 11447 is interwoven with large brass rings and the top and bottom pieces of leather have separated in a few areas, see the picture below.

Fabric Fusion is my usual leather glue and normally it does a good job but not on this Elisa strap. It works for awhile but then the leather strap starts to separate again. I have even tried using clips to hold the strap together while the glue sets but it still doesn't hold!

Any suggestions for brands of glues or gluing methods that I should try? Thanks!

Hi everyone!

so I found a duffle on eBay, but it’s for pick up only. I messaged the seller and she agreed to ship it to me for an extra £6 but I don’t know how to send her an offer without the ‘or best offer’ option. Any thoughts?

She should be able to send an offer to you for the agreed upon price. She should find the link in her email response to your email. She can respond to your email OR send an offer.

I asked her to send an offer and she said she’d look into it but that she’s not great at eBay. Me neither  I’ll message her that there should be an offer link in her email response options. Hopefully she can find it. Thanks, Roro!

If she can't figure it out, she can just modify the listing to your agreed upon price and you can purchase it.

Sorry, Katev. No advice from my edge of the world :confused1:
@LunaSilver has done lots of leatherwork/ edgework and may have some thoughts for you. :flowers:

Thanks! @LunaSilver can you advise me about repairing the separating strap on my Bleecker Elisa?

Everyone, what brand of leather glue do you recommend? I am willing to try other products but I would like some advice first, TIA!

I believe it was @NikkiTheVet that told me about Shoe Goo: https://www.amazon.ca/Shoe-GOO-1102...lja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ&th=1

I've only used it on hangtags, but liked it. I put a tiny bit on the tip of a wood skewer to keep the application precise.

I always use Barge rubber cement. You’re meant to apply it evenly with a toothpick on two pieces and let them dry a bit before adhering together. If it starts to get opaque while applying, I’ve fiddled too much and I just roll it off and try again with a clean sweep. Let it dry a few minutes and then push them together. I use it on hangtags and holes in piping. Unsure how it would work on your piece tho.
