Thanks so much, how did you reshape the brass? Would love to know the tricks of the trade

I slowly pushed & pulled & bent with my pliers (cloth covered the brass to prevent damage but as @Birdie13 mentioned, there’s jewellers pliers as well) & when I was happy with how it was shaped, I put it back on. Sorry I can’t be of more help, I sorta just hope for the best & wing things!

That’s a clever trick, thank you  I better find some pliers. How did you reshape the brass? I tried to get a hammer to them and they didn’t budge
Well, that’s a little more involved. When you manipulate the metal by bending or hammering you actually make it harder to bend. When making jewellery, you would heat the metal with a torch until red, clean it, then continue working. The heating softens it. In this case it would only be advisable if it were solid brass. Plating would be damaged by heating. I would just try to gently reshape using pliers. Try not to bend it back and forth too much. Try to avoid too much hammering. The metal could get brittle and break. I know this all sounds very scary if you’ve never done it before but keep in mind, the metal was probably only bent before when the bag was assembled. I just wanted to give you a heads up so you could avoid trouble.

Thank you for this! Best way to be! I’m leaning towards leaving it leaning to the side hahahh it adds character

Sorry but I'm so confused - so if I unravel the straps on my Casino straps would there be holes from stitching?

Oh sorry to confuse you! Hoku was asking me about the strap alteration I did to my mini station bag! For the Casino strap, once you open it & cut the length, you’ll have to create 2 new holes to either sew it back up or re-insert the staple. Sorry for the confusion!

Hi guys. I recently picked up this stewardess and it needs some repairs. Any suggestions on how to begin?

Also I dyed a vintage coach bag using Fiebing dark brown and it dried with a greenish iridescent tinge. Any thoughts how to remove it? I saw suggestions of applying resolene but also saw that sometimes it worsens the situation . Should I re-dye it and if so do you suggest using cloth/sponge or dauber?

Thanks for your help!

Found this 50th Anniversary Retro Dinky Shopping Bag (Shout-out to @Hyacinth for the name & authentication) for $39! Can’t wait til I have excuse to carry it!

@Coachaddict4020 Awesome! I love mine and use @LunaSilver tea rose bag charms on some of mine. I’ve got several originals and some of the anniversary editions. I actually like the 1991 anniversary bags best because of the brass feet and chunkier handles. These bags clean up nicely. Congratulations! I was lucky to find a burgundy one too that was a steal. You got an excellent price. These bags are little gems and they hold a ton more than you‘d think. Enjoy!

Thanks! They’re very well made, I was impressed with the leather thickness & handle quality! There’s a coral pink one on EBay right now but the price is eye-watering lol

Yes, I know that seller. She told me about it before she listed. Initial listing price was $795 and then she removed it to do more research before re-listing it. Mine is also coral. I bought the abused little bag for $46 and then started working on it. It was in such bad shape I ended up sending it to Sue Tremonti for rehab. She replaced three split piping sections with donor piping from similar vintage bags. It was filthy dirty and stains did not come out when I dunked it.

It turned out great and was about half the cost of the one you mention after rehab costs. Worth every penny to me. HTF bag and really HTF color. It’s one of my favorites. Here’s a before and after….

You can probably remove it with acetone and a lot of scrubbing. I've never had good results with Fiebings. A lot of dyes get that iridescence. I don't know what causes it. I think you might have to redye because I doubt you'll be able to remove all the dye evenly.

The stains on the strap are likely permanent. Where there are missing pieces of edging on the strap, I think you should remove it all and find new edging to sew on. The holes in the piping on the bag are fairly easy to fix with leather glue and fabric puff paint. I've done it several times. I think there are pictures somewhere in this thread of the work I've done.

Hi, It's been a minute. HNY
Finally got back to working on my first rehab(s). After dunking, lots of CPR and BR, the leather came out beautifully. Now I am working the hardware and "fraying" leather edges especially where the zipper is sewn on. For the edges I found @LunaSilver helpful post and have the Tokonole in my Amazon cart. For the hardware, I used Wizards and I am not loving how some of it came out, especially the Turnlock plate (not sure of correct name). I see several people including Debbie Baros using a nail file or very fine steel wool, which I'd like to try. BUT does this only work on solid brass? And if that is the case, is there a good way to be sure that I have solid brass. I tried some gentle sanding on the backside of the washer that goes inside and I definitely see that it is coated. But I am thinking the actual turnlock may be brass. Before I do something stupid, would love your experienced opinions. Thank in advance.

Looking forward to finally having something to share.
