I actually did the whole process three times. I’m not satisfied but at this point I used so much product including paint I’m afraid to start over it might not come off. The angelus paint I used to mix yellow and brown gave it a green tinge? I was going for a mustard but think it might have actually been putty to start if I go by the creed leather color. I did use BR and buff. I would be comfortable keeping it but intended to sell to save for my dream bag. Now in this condition, smooth but heavily colored I don’t know how to sell it. Is there a disclosure verbiage that you use so that the buyer understands what you’ve done to it? Any suggestions ? Start over and use acetone to take off anything dried on it including paint? Open to suggestions.

similarly I suspect I ruined this one for selling. I rubbed with alcohol to get rid of ink marks but took color out too so had to try color match and using paint in conditioner. Dunked three times, color refresh with a color I had mixed to match but didn’t so had to use all over. Wish I had let it be.

Hi @Ladyluvvy ! You must be pretty exhausted dunking, drying and conditioning 3 rounds! Was it to reduce the stains on the leather?

In terms of bags that are color-altered, I have to say it is a hard sell. I acquired several bags without knowing it was re-colored and I could not find a buyer until I lowered the price to fraction of the market value. And I'm talking about bags that were condition wise, great condition (no rips, tears, major stains or scratches) except for the color.

Whether or not you should start over will depends on what your goal may be. If you want to enjoy your restoration journey, it maybe a fun project to strip off the paint and start over. But if you rather collect some money, it may be wise to just sell as is with full disclosure of the condition. I have to say that the bag may not sell for much but if you think of all the products you have to additionally buy to restore the bag and additional time you will need to spend, it may still be profitable. I have done a rehab on a heavily painted Plaza bag (you can find my journey on this thread on the bag) and it ended up costing me additional $40 on leather acetone, recoloring product, etc plus my time (few weeks). So unless the goal of the rehab is to learn/explore rehab techniques, it's hard to justify those investments sometimes!

i hear you. I bought a lot of supplies just to do the bags I had. Then I got excited and bought more Bags and supplies. I originally tried to remove ink and stains, it seemed everything I did made the spots worse, I don’t know how the experts do it. Then when I tried to condition with a little bit of paint in CLR it just highlighted anywhere I had worked with changes in color.
I do enjoy doing it, must be my perfectionism and OCD. I really got the rescue bug. These bags are so gorgeous When redone by everyone. I can’t stop will have to redo them until I am satisfied to carry them or destroy them. I don’t plan to sell them. Thanks for the support!

Your bag looks fabulous! Well done!

Not sure if this would work for you, but I did a significant colour refreshing on a white Legacy Zip and am thrilled with the result. I adore white bags and Legacy Zips, so this project was exciting and worth all the time it took.

As we know the colour on some light bags is a coating, so I used a much higher percentage of acrylic paint in the paint/CPR mixture than I normally would presuming that I would have to create another coating. I dunked first then did many, many thin coats of the mixture (one side of the bag at a time) allowing at least 24 - 48 hours between coats. I also carefully used a hairdryer immediately after applying it. It's been sitting and curing for a couple of months and I plan to Blackrocks it in the next few days. I'll report back when that's done. In the meantime here's how the bag started out:

The strap isn't shown here, but I used the same process on it.
That’s beautiful

Last night and this morning I deep conditioned with Blackrocks, buffed and hand polished the hardware. I can still see the texture of the leather through the colour refreshing and the bag looks clean so I'm very pleased! Being that the Legacy Zip is one of my favourite styles and that I love white bags, I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of this one in the spring and summer. I also have a winter coat in this shade of white! :hbeat:

Just beautiful. I love that bag. If you had to guess how many coats you did what would you say ballpark was? Also are you applying with dauber, paintbrush, sponge or soft rag?

Thanks so much!!! I'm sure I did at least 10 VERY THIN coats per side. I applied them as I would straight CPR, massaging with a sponge in a circular motion. (As previously mentioned immediately after application I carefully used a hairdryer to dry to the touch and then let it sit for 24 - 48 hours before doing the flip side. I didn't apply the Blackrocks until it was allowed to cure for a couple of months).

Lots of work and a lot of time, but I LOVE this bag! Also,it's a "keeper" because of the extent of the colour refreshing.
