Hello Ladies,
I have a quick question about my Slim Satchel. I dunked her yesterday and the water was pretty gross. Fast forward to today, I applied the first coat of Leather CPR and some of the color came off. Is this normal or was the bag previously treated with something?View attachment 5181161View attachment 5181162

It could possibly be the dye coming off as that sometimes stains everything but it’s hard to tell. Does the leather on the bag look different? A shoe polished bag will be very shiny.

It wasn't shiny at all when I got it. Quite the opposite. It had a dull silky look. I thought it was very grimy but I'm not an expert so I had to ask you all just to be sure. IMG_20210830_170107.jpg

Here it is:
Wow! That's pretty intensive labor.

Then I would say it’s just the dye coming off onto the towels. I would only worry if the texture of the bag feels weird of if the colour continues to come off even after the bag is fully dry.

Thank you. This is a butter color which is a very pale yellow. I used a leather restorer with gold yellow acrylic paint mixed in. The restorer has a white base. I only rubbed it on briefly and then would wipe away. I did this a few times. I am very picky about how much paint I use if any. I don’t like the bags to look fake or painted.

Your bag really looks beautiful!!

I totally agree with you on the bags that look painted. It makes me cringe.

I'm currently struggling with Putty color Murphy bag.. It's in great condition considering it's from 1993 but the piping has darker and lighter colors due to age. I am torn on what to do with it.. Accept the beauty and age of the bag or try to at least cover a little bit? I think I'll take a picture of it and get some opinions.

Thanks for planting the seed of paint with leather restorer.. Hmm.

I'm also thinking about seeing if a highly rated cobbler who does color matching (I know to be very cautious here) and see if they can mix a leather restorer/paint for me to test out. NOT them!

I recently finished a Stewardess (K9C - 9525) for a friend, and having been a flight attendant for 27 years, I really enjoyed working on this bag!

This is the bag that had the tiny divots on the front flap!

The strap was washed, conditioned and straightened under weights and is now at my local cobbler having this slipped stitch repaired:

And after the hot teaspoon and Leather CPR technique suggested by @LunaSilver the divots were much improved!

Another hot spoon treatment and they disappeared altogether! :yahoo:

Thanks for looking! :flowers:
Great job. So beautiful!!

I worked on my Bella Court over the weekend! This one required a bit of elbow grease as it was shoe polished (fully disclosed). It took me 2.5 hours to scrub the polish off with 99% alcohol. It stripped a lot of the dye from the bag as well (as you can see on the piping in the before pics). Then I dunked it in super hot water & let it soak for over an hour before scrubbing with a toothbrush. I did 5 coats of CPR & applied heated Renapur followed by buffing for an hour with a horse hair brush. Im SO happy with how it turned out! The leather is a little uneven in some places but now it can absorb conditioner & doesn’t look like plastic so Im fine with that

Special thank you to @Busykitty who gave me this bag as a fun project, it will remain with me permanently & I can’t wait to carry it! :hugs:

P.S: Im about to post pics in the comp thread of the Bella & Watson if anyone’s interested in the similarities between the two
The end result is stunning! Great work!!!

I don’t know if y’all saw the NYC Rambler (an incredible bargain -$31US shipped) Hyacinth authenticated for me a couple of weeks ago or not, but it arrived and I dunked it tonight.

I tried two new (to me) techniques/things that I wanted to share with y’all.

1. I polished the hardware with Brasso before the dunk.
I’m so messy that I get the Brasso all over the bag and I hate taping so this time I tried polishing before the dunk. Seems like the hardware was still shiny afterwards!

2. It had a weird odor - not overpowering, just odd.
So I got to thinking about adding something to the water during the dunk. I tried Pyrex crystals because they seem to work well at eliminating odors in our laundry. Here’s the one I used:

I’ll let everyone know if they worked or not after the bag dries. Man, it’s a big ol’ bag!!!

Before and after photos please!
Sorry for the delay, it’s been a crazy week. My granddaughter’s daycare was shut down because one of the kids in her class tested positive. I’ve had to keep her home with me. Maybe I could teach her to rehab. Her tiny little 2 1/2 year old hands can reach into tight spots to re install hardware! Anyway, here are the pics…
Working on a black bag right now. Do you REALLY want to see some magic? Try the spoon trick on some worn corners :amazed:

Amazing! My court's piping is fully worn and this might possibly help.

I found this poor bag last weekend. Someone had spilled paint all over it, made a half hearted attempt to clean it off, then left it for dead. It’s smooshy Costa Rican leather, and nickel hardware! What monster would do such a thing?
