The Gum mentioned in my post don’t work well with glove tanned leather (chrome tanned leather all together). It works well with veg tanned leather. The following burnishing agent made in Japan works well on both chrome and veg tanned leather. Please change your Amazon order if it is not too late.

Yay Luna...you are back...missed you heaps.

This purple (ink? eggplant?) Tribeca (E8D - 9099) is absolutely gorgeous and the one thing left to do is restore the colour to the strap edges. Is there a specific technique I should use... colour refreshing or edge coating?

Thanks so much!!! :flowers:

Personally I just rub a finger of acrylic paint mixed with conditioner on the edges. I don't recommend edge kote as it isn't true to the way they were originally constructed.

This is the aftermath. Post dunk and a couple coats of CPR.. I even tried scrubbing the flap with a toothbrush and CPR then wiping it off. No dice. Any other ideas on how to remove these spots? I know it’s a long shot.

It looks much worse now. Now it does look like mold. I'm sorry. Did you use vinegar in the bath? I wonder if the mold bloomed in the bath. Did/does it have any odor? I think at this point, dyeing might be the only thing you can do.

My Collegiate is finished! Im pretty happy with the overall results. I did my regular hot water dawn/vinegar bath, 5 coats of CPR & 2 of Renapur. I buffed with a horsehair brush this time. I also cleaned up the strap edges with Resolene as well as touched up the piping on the back near the bottom where there was some colour loss. Turn-lock was replaced with a spare :)

I just washed the smaller version of this bag. Mine was made in 2001 in the US. Hopefully the leather isn't much worse on the China version. I'm not seeing the black stuff you refer to. Mine had black gunk in the pocket, which came out with a light scrub in the bath. Maybe you need to dunk longer in warmer water. Have you conditioned yet? What conditioners do you have?

I have many conditioners - still learned when to use what
apple
leather cpr
renuapur
blackrock
lexol

i trief apple first after a 15 min dunk - the black stuffed stared showing up
dunked it again ( but both times in cooler water )
then i tried leather cpr - just got worse !
i’m going to dunk it in hot water and not care about color loss this time ( i’m about ready to just save the hardware and be defeated - i’m still new to this tho so maybe i’ll learn a lot )

With red it sometimes looks stained when it is wet, and starts looking better as it dries, getting much better a few weeks after drying.

Yup, I used vinegar in the bath. Does that make mold worse? The bath water was super dirty though so the orig pics would’ve not shown the spots as much as now

It's good you used vinegar. Vinegar should have killed the mold, so most likely that mold was there all along. I'm sorry I couldn't see it in the pictures. Sometimes mold will grow in the package when it is shipped, so it is possible it wasn't as bad when the seller listed it.

Thank you.
It is not meant to correct the color loss, but to condense the fibre of leather and leave a smooth polished edge. Although it may slightly darken the leather color at the edge from burnishing. Also the edge leather joints should still be glued together, otherwise the result may not be ideal

Yes, the edges are still glued together so this method should work well. I'm really excited to try this! :flowers:

It is the edges of the Tribeca straps I'm working with:

Thanks! It has some minor scratches, not too bad though. It really is adorable! I love all the slip pockets as well. This is the very first vintage coach bag that Im using on the third hole. All my other bags are on the shortest setting. Is your collegiate’s strap also a little shorter?

Good luck @LadaZuri  speaking of… here she is after Renapur and buffed.

Oh my goodness!!!! That's one of the most beautiful bags I've ever seen! What a stunning colour!!!

Thank you so much, @whateve! I will try @LunaSilver's method for the Tribeca as I've ordered the products. Maybe next time I'll do paint and CPR to compare the results.
