Thank you SO much for doing this, I find the Saphir colour chart to be rather deceptive. I’ll definitely look into the darker shades offered
My pleasure. Yup. I picked it for my Ranch, which is that 1990-ish mahogany with burgundy undertones (mahogundy) and when I got it I was, well, yeah, that's not going to work. Fortunately I had a pile of BT handy and was all, hmmm  what do we have here?? Talk about a lucky discovery.
I am going to look at that chart again on my iPad. When I am in full on pursuit or research mode, I tend to use my laptop. But I find if I want to look at color, my iPad is a little truer, if that makes sense. So I may do that.

I am so excited that my tangerine or mango(?) Geometric Bag 9043 arrived yesterday! She is definitely going to be one of my favourites!

There's a bit of fading which is more evident irl. I am hopeful that a dunk and deep conditioning will remedy that, but I am open to colour refreshing if need be.

I have a tangerine Soho mini hobo (I can't remember if that is the exact name, it is def the thinner leather) that I picked up at an outlet circa 1998. I don't use it much, but have kept it clean and conditioned. I always flirt with the idea of dunking it.
Cannot wait to see this baby when you are done!

I dunked my Tangerine Geometric bag 9043 when I rehabbed it and I think that it came out pretty good, see link below:

If you apply a couple of coats of black rocks it will generally darken the bag a little and make all those dark spots sort of blend in together, making them much less noticeable. Be very sparing in putting BR on and rub off the excess immediately and buff. wait a day before putting on the next coat of BR, good luck!
Sorry for another weird question but how much surface area are you covering before you immediately rub it off? I just do a whole side/panel before I rub.

I actually haven't dunked my Lunch Box yet. I am heartbroken because I've lost part of the crossbody strap and have been searching for it and/or a suitable replacement. I can use my aqua Regina strap, so I should probably move on with rehabbing it.

Yes, dunking will definitely help bring out the colour, although with lighter coloured bags a little less so. IMHO dunking is an important first step. @whateve had an excellent idea to take your bag to a local paint store and have them colour match it! BRILLIANT! :yahoo: You only need a small amount of the acrylic paint, mixing it thoroughly with Leather CPR. Do thin applications and let dry completely between coats.

I've done colour refreshing on entire black and red bags and have been very happy with the result. Good luck and keep us posted! :hugs:
So sorry for the missing piece of your strap but at least you have a regina that you can borrow a strap from. I’ve been looking for one for the longest time!

Unfortunately due to health protocols and restrictions in our country its not easy to go to the paint stone to color match. Patience is not my strongest point so I went ahead and mixed some acrylic paint. I’d like to think I somehow got the color close to the original but I’m not sure if its the right consistency with CPR. Is it normal that the 1st few coats are thin and transparent-like and almost doesnt cover the color loss at all?

The aqua
I applied the saphir mix to the entire bag as there were some other spots that were faded, particularly on the flap. I used a thicker mix for the piping after a while because there was more wear on the corners than anywhere else, and the lighter mix just wasn't covering it well. I would recommend using acrylic paint mixed with CPR or whatever lighter conditioner you use; just make sure you match the color well! I mixed 4 different colors to get the right purplish, grayish, light blue that is the vintage Coach periwinkle.

BTW, I love this Aqua Lunch Box! I'd love a Lunch Box in aqua or periwinkle one day....

Thank you so much for the tips! I went ahead and mixed acrylic paint to get the closest color I can to the aqua. I’m not sure if I have the right consistency though. Is it normal that the 1st few applications are transparent-like and does not seem to cover the color loss? Also, how long do you wait in between applications? Do you have to wait for the previous application to be completely dry before you apply another layer? I’ve been impatient i think because when I tried to apply another layer, the previous one I put gets rubbed off. :frown:

The aqua lunch box is a dream! I’m sure you’ll find yours someday!

HELP!
I preconditioned my bag and dunked it, as usual when I get a new bag. It had no ink stains, no stains whatsoever, wasnt painted either. And as it was drying I noticed started getting stained all over! I thought maybe it was just taking longer to dry in those areas, so I started blow drying it and the stains wouldn’t go away. I dunked it again, dried it outside this time, and the stains are still coming back. I’m not sure what I did or what happened. The only difference in what I did now vs what I usually do is that I preconditioned it? But I don’t see how that could’ve done this. I’m so disappointed. Please tell me there’s something I can do to save this bag :crybaby:B24CFF43-BD9B-4562-BD20-D4B17B1EB2F6.jpeg

The applications should be transparent! However, if you go through 2-3 applications and it still doesn't seem to be covering the color loss, you probably added too much CPR. I usually wait at least 12 hours between applications to make sure the previous application is dry; 24 hours is probably better, but I get impatient:lol:

It might be mold damage and in that case their isn't much you can do. Soaking with vinegar may help to prevent more mold. Using a conditioner like Black Rocks that will darken it a little may also help to obscure the spots.

It may look better with time as it continues to dry. I once rehabbed a red bag that I didn't dunk but it got spotty when I started to clean and condition it and it wasn't mold; it just got darker in some areas. I put it away in disgust and when I came upon it later it looked great. Good luck!

i don’t think it was mold, the bag had no signs of it before the dunk, no stains no smell. I was thinking of doing vinegar regardless but I just don’t want to mess it up more than it already is  hopefully it gets better with time, just wish I had enough patience to not feel sad by it every time I look at it. Wish I knew what caused this with this bag:confused1:

I've finished rehabbing a Tangerine Geometric Bag (9043, 1997, USA); thank you to @whateve for authenticating the bag.

I bathed, shaped and conditioned it, replaced the missing portion of the turnlock, and polished the hardware. I think that the appearance of the bag has improved but I am a little disappointed that I couldn't eliminate some dark stains on one side near the top flap.

See below for before and after rehab pics and also a catalog image of the Geometric Bag collection.

Oh my goodness, that tangerine Geometric Bag turned out beautifully!!! I can hardly wait for mine to be finished!!! :yahoo:

It appears you did an incredible job with the colour matching!!! It is normal for ALL the coats to be thin and transparent. That way the paint is absorbed into the leather along with the CPR. It just takes more coats to complete the job. I wait at least 24 hours, but the more acrylic paint you use in the mixture, the longer the wait time. If you work on it too soon, or have made the mixture too heavy on paint, it will lift the previous coat.

The applications should be transparent! However, if you go through 2-3 applications and it still doesn't seem to be covering the color loss, you probably added too much CPR. IME colour refreshing is the one place restraint and patience really pays off.:lol:
